Refinery jobs, affordability and proximity to Houston in Red Bluff Terrace
Red Bluff Terrace is a neighborhood on the northern side of Pasadena, Texas, a suburb southeast of Houston. The neighborhood is tucked under Texas Route 225, and part of its appeal is its proximity to oil refineries and the jobs they bring. “The refineries stretch from right when you get on 225 all the way to La Porte,” says Yvonne Pruneda, a Realtor associate with Nan & Co. Properties who grew up in Pasadena. Residents can enjoy that proximity to Houston, with necessities all close at hand. Relatively affordable prices are another key feature of the neighborhood. “It’s a good place to live comfortably and affordably,” Pruneda says.
Midcentury ranch homes at relatively affordable prices
The median price for a single-family home here is $205,000. For comparison, the median price in Houston is $345,000. Most homes cost between $115,000 and $280,000, though one newly built home in the neighborhood sold for $380,000 in 2024. Such new builds are fairly rare, as the median year of construction in this area is 1953. Style-wise, the neighborhood is composed almost exclusively ranch-style homes, though a handful of New Traditional two-story homes are scattered throughout the area. Sidewalks line some streets, and many homes have attached garages or carports over the driveways. Well-kept lawns and moderately sized trees provide some respite from the Texas sun.

Texas Route 225 connects this car-dependent area to Houston
Texas Route 225 is essentially the neighborhood’s northern border, and residents can hop on it for a 16-mile trip to downtown Houston. Red Bluff Road is a thoroughfare that cuts diagonally through the city. Residents will likely want a vehicle, as public transit is limited to the western portions of Pasadena and the neighborhood has no bus stops. HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast is about 4 miles south of the neighborhood. George Bush Intercontinental Airport is about 28 miles north.
Neighborhood parks, a nature preserve and a Spanish-language movie theater
Red Bluff Park, at the center of the neighborhood, has sports courts, fields and places to picnic. It also has a splash pad and swimming pool for cooling off during Texas summer, and is home to the Odell Harrison Recreation Center, which offers programming including games, crafts and more. Satsuma Park and Revelon Park, where people can shoot hoops or play on the playgrounds, are close to the neighborhood. Residents can head to Armand Bayou Nature Center for kayak tours, hiking or nature programs. America Cinemas Pasadena screens films in Spanish or with Spanish subtitles.

Local taquerias and all the essentials close by
While residents are close enough to Houston to take advantage of the big city’s well-known food scene, there are many options close to home, too. Two neighborhood taquerias, Takeria Super and Taqueria Obregon, are on or near Preston Avenue. Silvia’s Kitchen specializes in early breakfast, opening at 4:00 a.m. six days a week. “There’s also a really good place called La Fonda,” Pruneda says. “They have very popular and authentic Mexican food.” Pasadena has many national chain stores and restaurants, as well. For groceries, most residents here opt for Kroger on Red Bluff Road, no more than 2 miles from the neighborhood. The Macroplaza Mall is about 3 miles away.

Holiday events, film and music at the park, and the Strawberry Festival
Pasadena puts on several city events that help to connect residents to one another. “I think the city does a good job,” Pruneda says. “They have fairs and festivals to get the community involved.” These include holiday events like a July 4th celebration, an Easter “Eggstravaganza,” a fall night at Strawberry Park with music from the symphony and a film screening, and the Pasadena Strawberry Festival, which has run for over 50 years. The four-day event in May brings over 60,000 people out to celebrate and now includes live music, parades, a barbecue cookoff, mud volleyball and a car show.
Important to know
Given its proximity to the Gulf Coast, Pasadena can be impacted by severe weather. Hurricane Ike in 2008 and Hurricane Beryl in 2024 both caused flooding, power outages and damage to buildings throughout the Houston area. Residents can visit the city’s website for storm preparedness information and to sign up for a text alert system.
