Pearl Beach is a hidden-away haven for Lake St. Clair boaters
Located where the St. Clair River and the Canadian border meet with Lake St. Clair, the small riverfront community of Pearl Beach is a hidden-away paradise for boaters. “The state of Michigan itself is surrounded by water, and the area around Pearl Beach is home to the lake sturgeon. It’s actually the ‘Lake Sturgeon Capital of Michigan’,” says Captain Anthony Moreschini, owner and operator of Finn's Sport Fishing, a major fishing charter in Pearl Beach. The waterfront bristles with backyard boat launches, while mini-yachts launch from the Sassy Marina and the local fishing charter helps even the most inexperienced anglers catch massive sturgeons and walleyes. With easy access to the healthcare and manufacturing jobs of Algonac and Port Huron, Pearl Beach offers a quiet retreat for those who find after-work relaxation in a twilight fishing trip.

Boating is central to the Pearl Beach experience
While many suburbanites look to the land for natural outings, most Pearl Beach residents look to the water. Boat owners often launch their craft directly from their backyard piers, and they can venture out to yacht clubs on Lake St. Clair’s small islands. "There’s got to be a thousand islands out there; it reminds me a lot of being in the Florida Keys," Moreschini says. "You’ve got blue, ocean-looking water with tons of little islands and birds everywhere.” The Poorman’s Yacht Club hosts events like horseshoe tournaments, while the Belvidere Boat Club is known among boaters for its views of the sunset. “Those islands are busy on the weekends; there’s a lot of pleasure-boating, power-boating, cruising, skiing, and watersports. Pretty much anything to do with water," Moreschini says. "There are a lot of backwater bays where people go out to swim on the weekend.” Aspiring anglers who need the guidance of an expert can charter a fishing trip with Finn’s Sport Fishing, which supplies voyagers with the best fishing spots and tactics. “I get people who come from as far away as France, Australia and all over the world; they like to go up towards Port Huron to see the blue-water fish and lots of freighters,” Moreschini says.
Landlubbers may prefer to venture into the St. John’s Marsh Wildlife Area for hiking, birding and fishing. Clay Township Park offers a splash pad, playground and basketball and pickleball courts to youths looking for outdoor recreation options. This same park is the site of the local “Blessing Box,” where charitable locals can leave food and even pet supplies for those in need. The Colony Bowl bowling alley offers an indoor venue for get-togethers, offering pool tables and a small restaurant in addition to bowling lanes decorated with the names of local champions.

Midcentury-built and manufactured residents are popular in Pearl Beach
Though Pearl Beach was founded in 1898, and its 1926-built water tower is registered among the nation’s “historic places,” Pearl Beach’s homes are much younger. Most residences were built between the years 1950 and 2000, although there are a handful of homes built from the early 2000s to the early 2020s. Manufactured homes sell for between $142,000 and $285,000, while single-story and split-level homes have garnered sale prices between $233,000 and $580,000. A handful of homes with lot sizes exceeding 3,000 square feet can sell for between $620,000 and $795,000. Scores of properties sit along the waterfront and have piers in their backyards, while others line side streets branching off from Pointe Tremble Road. “Right around the strip near the water, you have a good amount of houses. Just off the water, you have farm fields, horses, cows and chickens, so it’s kind of got a little bit of everything," Moreschini says.

A diverse dining scene lines Pointe Tremble Road
Pointe Tremble Road serves as Pearl Beach’s main thoroughfare, and a variety of eateries and shopping options sit along this Algonac-bound road. Located along a small canal, Club Capri immerses diners in Italian culture with a festively designed interior and a menu of both pasta dishes and pizzas. Johnnie Lega’s Restaurant & Tavern serves as the local sports bar, and its eclectic interior includes a ceiling decorated with airplane models and a neon sign. Other options include the local Coney Island franchise and Achatz Burgers, a milkshake stand in business since 1964. Algonac’s Kroger is the closest grocery option, located farther down Pointe Tremble Road.
