Investment opportunities are plentiful
Architecture in Allentown is diverse. Popular European-inspired styles include Dutch Colonial Revival and Tudor Revival. American Foursquare homes, which were created as a direct rejection of revival styles, can also be found here. While most of the homes in Allentown were built between the mid-1800s and mid-1900s, new builds have been popping up around the city. “Over the last few years, Allentown has become one of those very interesting neighborhoods where investors are hoping to capitalize on some great investments and bring some of the homes back to life with incredible renovations. Also, there are some new builds right off Grandview Park on Zuzu Circle and Science Street,” Anthony says. Older fixer-uppers can start below $20,000, while older homes needing fewer substantial updates can sell for between $60,000 and $103,000. Older renovated homes can sell for between $130,000 and $350,000, and new construction can sell for more than $780,000.Scenic views and sports courts at Emerald View Park
The 257-acre Emerald View Park sits to the north of the neighborhood. Not only does this recreational behemoth offer scenic views of the Pittsburgh skyline, but it also provides popular amenities such as sports courts, playgrounds, hiking trails and a dog park. Grandview Park sits just outside of Emerald View. It offers a large lawn space where events like yoga, movie nights, farm dinners and vintage markets are regularly hosted. Less than 1 mile away sits the Knoxville Incline Overlook Park. This abandoned-incline-railway-site-turned-green-space offers six acres of scenic trails that connect the Hilltop neighborhoods.Carrick High offers business and health technology programs
Kids may attend schools in the Pittsburgh Public School District, starting with Pittsburgh Grandview PreK-5 and South Hills Middle School, both received a C grade from Niche. They can continue their schooling at Carrick High School, graded a B-minus. The Allentown Night Market is a bi-annual fair highlighting over 100 unique and unusual artisans, live performers, crafters, and food and drink vendors. It is held along E. Warrington Avenue each summer and fall. Allentown is also mere minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, where there are dozens of annual events. The Peoples Gas Holiday Market is one popular event. It’s inspired by German Christmas markets and features shops that celebrate different cultures from around the world. It is held in Market Square, which is decked out in twinkle lights and festive décor. An ice skating rink featuring a 65-foot Christmas tree is also set up in the square.I-579, Route 51, Route 837 are nearby
Travel via car across Liberty Bridge, just 1.4 miles away. It connects to Interstate Highway 579, which leads to downtown Pittsburgh. Pennsylvania Routes 51 and 837 are also nearby, making intrastate travel easy. Pittsburgh Regional Transit serves this neighborhood through its light rail system. Allegheny County Port Authority buses also run through town. Public bus stops can be found along Beltzhoover Avenue, Arlington Avenue and E. Warrington Avenue. International travel is also made easy, as Pittsburgh International Airport sits just over 18 miles northwest.A growing business district along E. Warrington Ave
Allentown's shopping district is largely concentrated around E. Warrington Avenue, which has been growing since businesses and organizations began reinvesting in the area in 2014. Today, dozens of local shops and eateries line the street, including The Weeping Glass, a new-age gift shop, and Alla Famiglia, a high-end Italian restaurant. For daily necessities, residents can head to the neighborhood’s Dollar General or travel less than 2 miles east to a Giant Eagle Supermarket or ALDI. Allentown is also just over 2 miles from Market Square, a massive marketplace surrounded by shops and eateries in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh.
