Urban neighborhood in Pittsburgh’s Hilltop
A densely populated neighborhood less than 4 miles from Downtown Pittsburgh, Arlington features narrow streets that rise and fall dramatically with the city’s natural topography. Some spots reach elevations of around 1,200 feet above sea level, and the community is centrally located in Pittsburgh’s Hilltop, an area known for its panoramic views of downtown and the nearby Monongahela River. “You’re within 10 to 15 minutes of Downtown Pittsburgh, so it has easy access to all those amenities,” says Sara Leitera, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices with over 16 years of experience in the industry. Pittsburgh has more public staircases than any other city in the United States, with over 800 sets of city steps spanning about 15 miles throughout the Steel City. Arlington's city steps ensure that residents can navigate its hilly terrain and access nearby public transportation. “You can take the city steps down to all your favorite spots of the city," Leitera says.
It is only an 11 minute drive to downtown Pittsburgh from Arlington.

Early 20th-century homes include Dutch Colonial Revivals
Arlington features a diverse mix of architectural styles, and single-family homes built around the turn of the 20th century add a touch of historic charm to its residential streets. American Foursquares, Dutch Colonial Revivals and cottage-style homes sit side-by-side on narrow lots. Many properties have fenced-in backyards, and because of the neighborhood’s hilly topography, some homes have raised lots with small staircases leading up to their front stoops. While most houses in Arlington are over a century old, many properties have undergone recent renovations and feature updated kitchens with modern appliances. Street parking is the norm, although some houses offer rear driveways. Prices typically range from $50,000 for a property needing repair to $215,000 for a home that has been recently updated. “People are drawn to Arlington because of its affordability compared to downtown,” says Elise Bickel, owner of Bridge Home Realty and a local Realtor with over 20 years of experience in the industry. Arlington has a CAP Index Crime Score of 6 out of 10, higher than the national average of 4. This overall score is primarily driven by higher-than-average ratings for violent crimes, including a 9 out of 10 for homicide.
