Hidden Lake
Suburban Neighborhood in Port Orange, Florida
Volusia County 32129
Entry-level pricing and classic architecture
Throughout the neighborhood, blooming bushes and mature oak trees line the sidewalks adjacent to ranch-style homes, primarily built in the 80s, which feature open floor plans. Single and double-wide manufactured homes are also prevalent throughout the community. "We rarely have open lots – putting down manufactured homes has always been popular," Lee says. "It used to be we couldn't keep a house on the market for more than 24 hours, but that's calmed down a little. Besides, homes anywhere in the 200,000s are few and far between. Low 400s are more common. Areas like this are a little more affordable for folks." Some homes have water views from the community lake, and the prevalence of solar panels lowers residents' utility bills. Older ranch homes can sell between $270,000 and $300,000, while renovated properties or newer construction sell between $300,000 and $390,000.Walking over to Willow Run Park
Directly bordering the neighborhood's south end is Willow Run Park, which is walkable for most residents. It has a playground and revamped tennis courts under the shade of trees, alongside paved trails for jogging or biking. The Port Orange Recreation Center – also called The REC – is newly renovated and provides free events and programs to the community. It supports youth and adult sports leagues, and the connecting building of ArtHaus provides locals with art activities and classes. On the path to Atlantic High
Volusia County Schools serves public schools, and children can start by attending Horizon Elementary, which is graded with a B on Niche. Horizon Elementary School has a joint-use agreement with the City of Port Orange Recreation Department so classrooms can access the nearby park throughout the school day for outdoor classes and play. Students move on to Silver Sands Middle before heading to Atlantic High, which also receives B grades. High school students can take Advanced Placement classes, dual enrollment and career certification courses. GreatSchools notes that Atlantic High is above average regarding college readiness compared to previous years.Community gathering and tourism-drawing events
The Daytona International Speedway is 6 miles north of Hidden Lake, a massive attraction as people flood in to watch the Daytona 500. On a smaller scale, the Pavilion Farmers Market off South Williamson Boulevard is open year-round on Wednesdays and Saturdays, offering Hidden Lake and all other Port Orange neighborhoods a place for fresh produce, specialty items, handcrafted art and live music. "Organizations like the Lion's Club and Elks Club are really active; you'll see them at every event for the community. There's always something going on that's family-friendly, like free movies at the Parker Amphitheater and seasonal festivals, things like that," Lee says.Travel via I-95 and public transportation
Hidden Lake is bordered by Interstate 95, and Dunlawton Avenue directly connects to City Center Circle, 3 miles away. Dunlawton Avenue is also where residents can catch a bus, and bus routes run throughout Port Orange and Daytona.Finding both errand stops and good local eats
Though Hidden Lake is tucked a bit away from major roads, it takes little time for residents to find significant commercial areas. Big-name errand stops such as Walmart and Target line the main thoroughfare of Dunlawton Avenue, which leads 2 miles south to the Pavilion at Port Orange, an open-air mall with many retail shops. A local favorite is Copperline Coffee and Café, known for its signature fried chicken biscuit with peppered bacon and pepper jelly.
