Hood Canal community close to outdoor adventures
Between Lofall’s rocky beach on the Hood Canal and acres of forested park, this North Kitsap community has a slower pace than in nearby business districts. Douglas firs and pine trees line the drive through town as commuters travel south to nearby Naval bases and downtown Poulsbo, affectionately known as “Little Norway,” because of its Scandinavian influence. Within the neighborhood, waterfront parks and beaches provide unobstructed views of the Olympic Mountains.
Forested parks provide shade and great visuals for people outside to enjoy.
Thoughtfully placed benches allow everyone to sit and soak in the view.

Kitsap Memorial State Park’s waterfront and trail networks
Outdoor recreation surrounds the neighborhood, with Kitsap Memorial State Park and Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park, both nearby, just under 6 miles away. The smell of saltwater fills the air along Kitsap Memorial State Park’s 62 acres. “It’s got a couple of outbuildings that are really cute and beach access, which is pretty rocky but has nice views of the Hood Canal and the Olympic Mountains,” says Joni Kimmel, a broker with Kimmel & Young Team, who has over 25 years of experience. Almost 2 miles of forested trail loops through the park and its ship-shaped playground structure with decorative tree posts. To the east, Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park spans over 3,400 acres of property with 65 miles of hiking and biking trails. The Stottlemeyer Trail, which weaves through 1.2 acres in the park, is a horse-friendly trail.

Viking donuts, barn dining room and shops
Despite not having a designated shopping center, Lofall’s proximity to Washington state Route 3 and state Highway 305 NE ensures the community can browse Downtown Poulsbo’s options. “Poulsbo is a cute, little Norwegian downtown area, where people love to shop in boutiques and coffee shops,” Kimmel says. “Downtown Poulsbo is very famous for Sluys’ Bakery, home of the Viking Cup, which is a very large donut. There’s always a line of at least 20 people deep.” Shops including Safeway and Coast DO It Best Hardware are on state Highway 305 NE. Fairy lights twinkle off Big Valley Road NE in Molly Ward Gardens’ rustic barn dining room, where small plates made with organic ingredients are served.
