Cortina offers neighborhood amenities and highly ranked schools

Cortina is a master-planned neighborhood in West Queen Creek within walking distance of a top-rated elementary school. Homes have backyards, and families are close to parks, recreation spaces and places to shop. "Queen Creek is the fastest-growing city in Arizona. I'd call it the southeast Scottsdale family center. We have nice homes, nice communities and plenty of places to eat," says longtime resident Susan Bermudez, a Realtor with LPT Realty. With growth comes new infrastructure, and Queen Creek recently added State Route 24 and widened roads to ease congestion. "Unlike other areas where housing comes first and roads come later, the infrastructure was built alongside the housing here," Bermudez says.

Less than a mile away, Kingbird Park has covered picnic tables and open space to spread out. South of the neighborhood, the Queen Creek Wash Trail offers over 5 miles of biking and hiking paths through neighborhoods, parks and farmland. Larger parks like Mansel Park and the 272-acre Gilbert Regional Park are a few miles away and offer more green space, splash pads and lakes.

Queen Creek Marketplace has big-box shopping and chain restaurants

Cortina is near many places to eat and shop. Creek Side Taco Shack is a favorite for its sandy outdoor setting with picnic tables under bright blue umbrellas. Margaritas are served in mason jars, and string lights and a bonfire add ambiance at night. On South Power Road, BrüCo Taproom serves craft beer and specialty pizzas. Most locals head to Queen Creek Marketplace and Queen Creek District, both just a short drive down Rittenhouse Road, for everyday errands. Target, Trader Joe's and national retailers blend in with smaller boutiques and restaurants. There's a Safeway on East Queen Creek Road for quick grocery runs.

A-rated schools, STEM programs and college partnerships create options for students

Higley Unified School District has an A-minus rating on Niche and enrolls over 13,000 students. "Parents can choose where to send their kids," Bermudez says. "There are lots of different school options. If the public school system isn't the right fit, there are schools focused on sports, academics or theater." Cortina Elementary School and Sossaman Middle School have A grades. Higley High School has an A-minus rating and partners with Chandler-Gilbert Community College through its Career and Technical Education courses, allowing students to earn college credits. The CTE department also offers internships for 12th graders in fields such as criminal justice, software development and sports medicine.

Queen Creek community events bring neighbors together

Off-roading is big in the city, and every December, locals celebrate with the annual Queen Creek SXS Christmas Cruise featuring off-road utility side-by-side vehicles. "People come outside their houses to watch, and the Razors are always decorated with lights. It's so much fun," Bermudez says.

Convenient options to nearby cities for work and medical services

Cortina is about 12 miles from Gilbert and Chandler and 23 miles from Mesa. "The new 24 [freeway] connects to the 202, which wraps around the Valley. Being close to a freeway makes a big difference," Bermudez says. "The local streets get congested, but you'll be fine near a highway." Cortina is about 5 miles from Loop 202, which connects to Interstate 10. The nearest emergency room is a mile away at Arizona General Hospital in Gilbert. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is just under 30 miles from Cortina.
