Blissville is a small Queens neighborhood with city skyline views

Blissville is a small neighborhood in Queens between Interstates 495 and 278. It sits across the Newtown Creek from Greenpoint, and looking westward, residents can admire the Manhattan skyline. “It’s zoned industrial,” says Michael Bethoney, a broker with Nest Seekers International, who specializes in luxury new developments across New York. Much of the neighborhood is taken up by industrial buildings and Calvary Cemetery, with just a few blocks of residential buildings in between. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they started building more around there," says Silvette Julian, a real estate advisor at Compass with over 15 years of experience in the New York metro area. "Whether it’s close to the cemetery… you build, they buy. Brooklyn has been a little unaffordable, so people go to Queens for similar proximity to work.”

Busy roads and nearby public transportation options

The northern border of Blissville is Interstate 495, which leads east-west across Long Island. Interstate 278, also known as the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, is the eastern border and connects to other major highways. The I-278 and I-495 interchange is at the neighborhood’s northeastern corner. Emergency care at Tisch Hospital about 3 miles away and LaGuardia Airport is about 5 miles away.
Neighborhood streets are busy with trucks on the road, so it can be hazardous to walk and bike. There are bus stops along Greenpoint Avenue, which connect passengers to Greenpoint, Sunnyside and Williamsburg. Locals can access the subway and trains at the Hunterspoint Avenue stop, a mile away. Trains, including Amtrak and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), pass through nearby Sunnyside Yard; some tracks parallel Newtown Creek, passing through Blissville’s industrial area. Air quality can suffer because of fumes from this industrial area, and Newtown Creek remains a designated Superfund site due to pollution.
