Mix of single-family and multifamily homes
Tudor, Dutch Colonial and Federal-inspired homes make up most of Douglaston, with multifamily options like townhouses and semi-detached condos nearby. “Douglaston is zoned for single-family homes, but there are garden apartments. So, it’s a good mix of both,” Walsh says. A five-bedroom home that’s seen renovations can land in the $1 million to over $3 million range. Some townhouses hit the market for $600,000 to $975,000, while condos surrounding Douglaston Golf Course can sell for $275,000 to $545,000.Acres of greenery and adventure
Alley Pond Park runs almost the entire length of Douglaston and features 635 acres of green space with hiking trails, a golf course and playground equipment. The Alley Pond Adventure Course’s rope and obstacle course creates a space for team building and seeing the world from a new angle on the zip line. The Alley Pond Environmental Center gives visitors an up-close look at recovering wildlife, and the Green Meadows Petting Farm organizes fun events like their Memorial Day celebration with bouncy houses, hayrides and pony rides. Louis Pasteur Park is a quieter option for those who want a park closer to home. The 1866 Douglaston Manor mansion overlooks the 18-hole Douglaston Golf Course and is a popular place for hosting weddings and grand events. The Queens Public Library at Douglaston/Little Neck keeps a full calendar of community groups and programs, such as the Canasta Club and summer reading activities. The CAP Index gives Douglaston a 1 out of 10 crime score, with 1 being the lowest.Highly rated public schools
Public School 98 - The Douglaston School and P.S. 221Q The North Hills School earn A ratings from Niche and offer kindergarten through fifth-grade classes. The A-rated J.H.S. 067 Louis Pasteur middle school teaches students before they move on to Benjamin N. Cardozo High School, which gets an A-minus. Cardozo High also offers specialized areas of study, like the Performing Dance program, to prepare young stars for auditions and to teach them different dance styles. Divine Wisdom Catholic Academy middle school is the only private school option within the neighborhood.Coming together for community celebrations
Every year since 1927, regardless of the weather, Douglaston neighbors come together with nearby Little Neck to throw the Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade, making it one of the nation’s longest-running and most anticipated events. The Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day parade, one of the largest in the nation, often ends at St. Anastasia’s Roman Catholic Church. Other places of worship open their doors to Douglaston, including St. Sarki’s Armenian Apostolic Church and the Immaculate Conception Center.Traveling to Manhattan or into Long Island
Douglaston Station gives commuters a roughly 30-minute trip to Manhattan, and Interstate 495 and Northern Boulevard create direct routes into Queens. Without local buses, residents rely on their cars to visit restaurants outside the neighborhood.Out of town dining
Food Bazaar and Jmart provide the community with groceries. “There’s Queens Crossing in Queens, but most people here go to Long Island for clothes shopping at Roosevelt Field or Miracle Mile,” Walsh says. Walsh also recommends Marbella, a restaurant that serves traditional Spanish and Italian dishes while a harpist plays live every Friday through Sunday. Il Tascano’s Italian menu brings in hungry customers for lunch and dinner.
