A mix of historic homes and commercial properties
Less than two miles southwest of Downtown Racine, Slausondale holds a mix of historic homes, industrial sites and county office buildings. While neighborhood homes were largely sold to rental companies after the 2008 financial crisis, homeowners have regained their hold, and most of the homes are now owner-occupied. “There’s quite a bit of renovation going on,” says Patty Lemke, a broker with Image Realty and owner of the property management company New4U, LLC. Lemke says homes can sell for just over $200,000 if they're renovated.
Homes from the 1800s
Slausondale's housing styles come in many shapes and sizes. Some colonial-style two-story homes date back to the late 1800s, while many bungalows and shotgun homes were built around the 1930s. Prices range from $100,000 for homes needing work to $230,000 for fully renovated homes. The median home price is $141,000, down 7% from the previous year.
Colorful colonial homes are sprinkled across Slausondale's suburban streets.
Many of the Craftsman bungalows in Slausondale feature covered porches.

Less than a mile west, a small collection of local businesses like Gold Bear Trading Company and Wilson’s Coffee and Tea add to the neighborhood’s nearby options. “There’s Derango there as well,” Lemke says. “That’s a pizza place that’s been there forever.”

At the end of summer, Party on the Pavement draws more than 15,000 people downtown with live music and local cuisine spread out over numerous city blocks. In November, Racine kicks off the holiday season with the Holiday Parade, which ends with the Tree Lighting Ceremony in Monument Square.
Park High School
Racine schools allow parents to apply for their children to attend any school in the city, but Slausondale’s closest option for elementary through middle school education is Mitchell School on Drexel Avenue, just south of Slausondale. Mitchell School offers kindergarten through eighth grade and earns a C-minus on Niche. North of the neighborhood, Park High School requires every senior to complete a comprehensive portfolio demonstrating mastery of the subjects they’ve studied. Park earns a B-minus.
Mitchell is a K-8 Community School in partnership with United Way of Racine.

Lakeside parks and the Washington Park Golf Course
On West Boulevard, N. Owen Davies Park holds a playground and access to the County Bike Trail. The trail reaches south into Illinois and west to South Green Bay Road, offering miles of paved trail. Just over a mile east, the shores of Lake Michigan hold an abundance of small parks like Samuel Myers Park and the Racine Skatepark. Across Washington Avenue lies the Washington Park Golf Course, which Lemke says is a popular course in the area. Opening in 1921, the course is a par 36 course open to the public.
A boardwalk extends out onto the breakwater for sightseeing at North Beach Oasis.
Gravel trails lead through nature areas at Samuel Myers Park and meet at the beach.
