Renner Corner is a place where life moves at a relaxed pace. The neighborhood has a rural feel, property taxes are lower than in other areas of Sioux Falls, and you can keep livestock on your land or start a hobby farm. Despite the country vibe, people living here still have access to high-speed internet, and major health care facilities are just minutes away. Driving to Downtown Sioux Falls takes about 15 minutes, and housing options range from classic ranch styles to acreage lots.

Being within an unincorporated community makes certain aspects of life more affordable. "People move here for the [lower] taxes," says Mapleton Township Supervisor Jordan Dvorak. "You're not paying city taxes, and you don't have all the rules of living in the city." Dvorak, a resident himself, says one of the reasons people move here is just that, and for the freedom that comes with country living. "You can do anything you want with your property. You can have animals. People have livestock and hobby farms. They'll have ATVs, motorcycles and shoot guns."
Home styles and lot sizes you’ll find in Renner Corner
Ranch-style, split-level and bi-level homes built between the 1960s and the '80s are common, while those built after the '90s often feature New Traditional designs. However, finding a property here can be tricky. “People move to Renner to make a long-term commitment, and so there are not many homes that come up on the market," says David Shelton, the managing broker of Century 21 Advantage, who's been in the industry since 1989. Plus, much of Renner Corner is yet to be developed. Lot sizes vary dramatically here, as some homes are part of subdivisions and sit on less than an acre, while others occupy up to 20 acres. "There's a lot of acreage properties and a lot of small rural developments," Dvorak says. "They're small subdivisions, and they're not all connected. There'll be one here, and then miles of field, and then another one there." Prices range from the low $200,000s to the mid-$600,000s.
What the schools are like in Renner Corner
Where students go to school depends on where they live. “The Brandon school district covers part of Renner, but not all. You have Renberg Elementary School as well, which falls into the Sioux Falls School District," Shelton says. He notes that Brandon is one of the most highly regarded districts among locals. “Brandon has just done education right, and they’ve had the good fortune of attracting families that are involved.”
Easy access to high-speed internet and nearby medical care
Locals have access to high-speed internet through providers like CenturyLink. Health care access is solid, with Sanford USD Medical Center just 6 miles away and several urgent care clinics nearby.
Outdoor recreation and everyday amenities around town
Spending time outdoors, whether on hobby farms or participating in outdoor sports, is a big part of life here. There's the track at the Sioux Valley Cycle Club, the Crooks Gun Club nearby, and if you're into horses, you can board and take riding lessons at Windy Hill Stables or Cedar Ridge Equestrian Center. Golfers are close to the Northern Links Golf Course, a public course with membership options. And baseball has a long tradition here — Renner Corner is home to the oldest ball park in South Dakota.

Commute times to Sioux Falls
Driving from Renner Corner to downtown Sioux Falls by car is around 10 miles, or less than 15 minutes, via State Route 115 and Interstate 229 South. "You're close to interstates. I can get anywhere in a maximum of 20 minutes," Dvorak says. The city’s bus system, Sioux Area Metro, only runs within the Sioux Falls city limits and doesn’t extend to the neighborhood.
