An upscale community at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains
Somersett is a sprawling desert community sequestered high up in the rolling, brush-laden hills of west Reno. It’s known for its spacious, contemporary homes, country club, parks, golf courses and gorgeous views of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Although it’s located at the outer limits of the city, its proximity to Interstate 80 means it’s just a short trek to entertainment and nightlife in downtown Reno. “I think a lot of people just really like the feeling of being up in the mountains. A lot of these homes have stunning views,” says Realtor Sally Baldecchi of Solid Source Realty, who almost exclusively works in the Somersett area.
New homes nestled in hilly terrain
The neighborhoods' wide, winding streets are lined with contemporary homes painted in light shades of green, brown and eggshell, including some with stone facades or accents. There’s a mix of track designs and custom homes, as well as some luxury estates with palatial decks, open floor plans and walls of glass to take advantage of the landscape. Manicured front yards, young trees and bushes blend in with the abundant natural scenery that surrounds the neighborhood. Many of these homes have outstanding views of the mountains and hills that recede into the distance. Smaller homes can be found here for as low as $500,000, while large, luxury homes can sell for as high as $3 million. “They sell pretty quickly, usually in under 30 days, if it's priced correctly,” Baldecchi says.
Somersett sits at an elevation of nearly 6,000 feet, and receives considerable snowfall.
One potential negative to Somersett is high winds and most homes will landscape accordingly.
Somersett has homes ranging in value from the mid 500's to over 3 million.
