An upscale community at the foot of the Sierra Nevada

Somersett is a sprawling master-planned community in the high-desert hills of west Reno. It’s a place where you can enjoy modern suburban homes and a rustic atmosphere without sacrificing convenience. Known for its wide-open spaces and panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada, it was built to harmonize with the rugged, brush-covered landscape. While it sits at the northwestern edge of Reno, quick access to Interstate 80 means residents can easily get from the quiet hills to downtown Reno's vibrant nightlife and employers in just a few minutes.

Modern homes in rustic terrain

The winding residential streets in Somersett are designed to follow the natural contours of the hilly terrain. They’re lined with a mix of contemporary tract homes and larger custom estates, mostly finished in earth tones to complement the high-desert environment. “It’s really its own community on the edge of the city,” says Realtor David Hughes of Dickson Realty, who has sold over 500 homes in the neighborhood. “People come out here because they like to golf or they like the outdoors, or both. And the homes are nice, and it’s quiet.” Homes sell for anywhere from the low $500,0000s to around $2 million. Many, though not all, of the area’s subneighborhoods are gated, and all homes are part of the Somersett HOA. Monthly fees are generally in the $200 to $300 range. Somersett’s rural location means that wildfire risk is significant and can impact home insurance rates.

Lots of opportunities for golfing, hiking and mountain biking

One of Somersett's top selling points is access to an active, outdoor lifestyle. The community is famous for its extensive amenity package, which can make it feel more like a resort than a standard subdivision. “It has, in my opinion, the best amenities and infrastructure in all of Reno,” Hughes says. “And the second-best golf course.” Local HOA fees include family membership at Somersett Club at Town Center, a massive 22,000-square-foot recreation center that serves as the heart of the community, featuring a fitness center and large indoor and outdoor pools. Somersett Golf & Country Club, which has fewer than 400 permanent members, features a world-class 18-hole championship course. As for hiking and biking, the neighborhood is surrounded by dozens of miles of mixed-use trails that run into nearby scrubland, canyons and mountains. Somersett’s own Sierra Vista Park offers a sizeable and well-groomed mountain biking course with intermediate and advanced routes.
