Buyers can find all kinds of homes on wooded lots in River Hills. There are familiar ranch-style houses and bungalows in some areas, but the village is known for its grander architecture. Stately Colonial Revival homes and creative midcentury modern custom houses hide away on parklike grounds, as do sleek contemporary estates. Many of the village's homes are on five or more acres, although some subdivisions offer condos and single-family homes on smaller suburban lots. “You have a lot of privacy with a little bit of a country feel,” says Julie A Lessila, a Realtor with Realty Executives Integrity.
Townhouse-style condos sell from the mid-$800,000s to over $1.7 million. Single-family home prices range more widely. You can find a fixer-upper ranch-style home on less than an acre in the $200,000s, and especially large, new estates on acreage can sell for $5 million. River Hills has a median single-family home price of about $1 million. That's higher than nearby Milwaukee, Glendale, Mequon, Brown Deer and Fox Point.

River Hills' public and private schools are top-rated
River Hills is served by the Maple Dale-Indian Hill School District, which covers prekindergarten through eighth grade and earns an A-plus overall from Niche. For high school, students advance to the A-plus-rated Nicolet Union High School. The village is also home to the University School of Milwaukee, a private prekindergarten through 12th-grade school that also scores an A-plus.

Although there are no public parks within River Hills, members of the Milwaukee Country Club spend time outside on an 18-hole golf course and private athletic courts. I-43 keeps River Hills connected to Milwaukee
Interstate 43 runs along the east edge of River Hills, taking commuters directly into downtown Milwaukee. East Town is about 10 miles away, which is a roughly 15-minute drive. Most people in River Hills drive to get around, but you can catch a Milwaukee County Transit System bus from a park-and-ride lot at the junction of I-43 and Brown Deer Road.

“While River Hills is mostly residential without much commerce, the neighborhood is close to plenty of retail,” Lessila says. There are strip malls along Brown Deer and Port Washington roads just outside the village where you'll find Walmart, Lands' End and Metro Market, as well as dozens of other specialty businesses and locally owned restaurants. Bayshore, Glendale's popular open-air shopping mall, is less than 10 minutes away.

Community events at the Lynden Sculpture Garden
