About 10 miles from Downtown Pittsburgh is Robinson Township, known as western Pennslyvania’s largest shopping destination. Major retailers and restaurants offer convenience just around the corner, while a range of community events and a close-knit school district draw residents together. “Robinson is a place everybody wants to move to, and nobody wants to leave,” says Diane McConaghy, a local Realtor and associate broker with Re/Max Select Realty, who has over 20 years of experience in the industry. “It’s a big area but also a neighborly community. I’ve lived here for 26 years, and everyone knows everyone.” In addition to major shopping areas, residents are also minutes from acres of woodlands with winding trails. Paired with proximity to Pittsburgh’s city limits, the airport and highly rated schools, Robinson residents enjoy a blend of suburban convenience, city entertainment and outdoor recreation.

Shopping and Dining
Internationally known retailers like Ikea are clustered around Interstate 376. Popular restaurants range from chains to family-owned diners. “Everything is close between Settlers Ridge, Robinson Town Center and The Mall at Robinson – it’s all within 10 minutes or so of each other,” says Realtor Jaime Chesney of Realty One Group Horizon, who has been in the industry for decades. Settler’s Ridge features a mix of shops, a movie theater and the trendy Market District Supermarket. “It’s by far the largest grocery store in the area,” McConaghy says of Market District. “They have such a wide assortment of products, even people from West Virginia drive to shop there.” Up the street, Costco Wholesale, Target and Walmart Supercenter are just a few of the many big-box stores in the area.
Just like shopping, the list of restaurants to choose from is endless. A popular option is Downey’s House, known for its extensive menu featuring a variety of diner classics. “Downey’s House is a local favorite,” McConaghy says. Other options include Smokey Bones Pittsburgh, which is the go-to spot for a barbecue sandwich, and Central Diner & Grille, which offers a relaxing patio and all-day breakfast. “Primanti Bros sandwiches are another big thing around here,” McConaghy says. “They started downtown, but have expanded all over the country.”
Known as Western Pennsylvania’s largest shopping destination, Robinson Township offers easy access to top retailers and restaurants.

Montour High’s STEM Academy
Robinson Township students are zoned to the Montour School District, which scores an A rating on Niche. Students may attend A-rated schools like Montour Elementary, David E. Williams Middle, and Montour High. In addition to Advanced Placement courses, Montour High offers a STEM Academy, which aims to prepare students interested in science and math-related careers through hands-on and problem-based learning. McConaghy notes that alternative learning options include Propel Montour High School, a public charter school that emphasizes student engagement through small classroom sizes. Area private school options include Archangel Gabriel Catholic School for elementary and middle schoolers, which is run by the local parish.

Landscaped subdivisions with sidewalks
Sloping hills give way to landscaped subdivisions that feature modest ranch-style houses and split-levels priced from the mid $200,000s to the $400,000s. Larger Colonial-inspired, New Traditional and Craftsman-style homes are scattered along streets accented by silvery dogwoods, red maples and green oaks. These properties can range from the $400,000s to $1.9 million. Large yards, attached garages and sidewalks are common amenities. “It’s a great place for walking your dogs, and people don’t speed through the streets because they know kids play here,” Chesney says. Townhouses range from the upper $100,000s to the mid $400,000s, and condominiums sell from the low $100,000s to the mid $200,000s. “There’s a diverse range of housing, and most residents own their own homes,” McConaghy says. “But there has been a lot of new development, including new builds and modern apartments.” Due to the landscape, sloping hills and streams fed from Montour Run may cause some areas to endure localized flooding during heavy rain.

Hiking trails and swimming at Settlers Cabin Park
Robinson Township brims with outdoor recreation. At Clever Park, amenities range from an ADA-accessible playground and sports courts to the Robinson Township Pool. With a concession stand and swimming lessons, the pool also boasts a waterslide and alternating food trucks. About 2 miles south, Burkett Park caters to local sports leagues with baseball, softball and soccer fields. Along Baldwin Road, golfing enthusiasts can hit the range at Chartiers Country Club. However, the community’s main attraction is Settlers Cabin Park. Sweltering summer days lead to crowds at the wave pool, encompassed by an expansive green space for sunbathing. The park also attracts nature lovers. Hiking trails dotted with colorful wildflowers lead to a hidden waterfall and an 18th-century log cabin. It’s also home to the Pittsburgh Botanical Garden, blooming with local flora and fauna. Montour Woods Conservation Area offers even more trails. “The Montour Trail runs for miles and miles,” McConaghy says. “There are different access points, and it attracts walkers, bikers and everyone in between.”

Concerts and festivals at Burkett Park
Burkett Park hosts the annual Robinson Township Autumn Festival, which kicks off every year with fireworks, live music, food and more. The festival is just one of the park’s many events, with other festivities ranging from summer concerts to Easter egg hunts. Robinson Town Centre partners with the community for popular events like the Annual Halloween Walk, where youngsters can trick or trick around the Town Centre’s plaza and the Annual Car Cruise, which attracts vintage car lovers ready to show off their shiny 1960s Chevy Corvette. Apart from cruising around town, attendees can enjoy music, food, and prizes at the Town Centre.
10 miles to the airport and Downtown Pittsburgh
Although Robinson is mainly a car-dependent community, public transit options are still available, with bus routes running along Steubenville Pike and Clever Road. Residents are surrounded by some of the region’s most prominent thoroughfares, including Interstates 79 and 376. “Commercial and retail properties border major highways, while residential streets are hidden along tree-lined backroads,” Chesney says, “so it’s still very quiet.” I-376 leads about 10 miles west to Pittsburgh International Airport and east to downtown Pittsburgh. Nearby roads like Pennsylvania State Route 51 and 65 also lead downtown. McConaghy notes several hotels are in the area due to its proximity to the airport and the city. “It’s a great spot for visitors coming to town for Steelers games and festivals,” McConaghy says. Heritage Valley Kennedy Hospital is also just 3 miles away from the heart of Robinson.
I-376 is the fastest route to Pittsburgh from Robinson Township.
