Residents are about 2 miles east of the city center and 90 miles northwest of Chicago. For local public transit needs, Rockford Mass Transit District (RMTD) provides stops along Rural Street on the north side and Ninth and State street on the south side. Jackson Oaks’ residential focus means that residents may have to travel more than a few blocks to get to relevant local businesses, but with a central location, those trips won’t be too far. The Schnucks at Rockford Plaza to the south is the nearest supermarket. Other shops in the area include well-known brands such as Dollar General and Walgreens, as well as unique Rockford stops such as Culture Shock, a record store with stacks of vintage sound equipment and quirky gifts. Northeast of the neighborhood, Lydia’s Café offers brunch fare in a casual environment.
