Multifamily homes near downtown Salem
The Bridge Street community, centered around the road of the same name, is a residential neighborhood with tightly packed historic homes perched between the downtown areas of Salem and Beverly. Residents can stroll down Bridge Street to reach a few businesses and view the seasonal decor on neighbors' front stoops. Most homes are close to dining and shopping, which can be found both in the neighborhood and downtown Salem. There are also a number of public transportation options, making almost all of the North Shore and Boston just a short trip away.
1800s multi-unit colonials and New Englanders
Many Bridge Street residences are New Englander and Colonial Revival styles that were built in the early to late 1800s. “There are lots of smaller houses and multifamily units in the neighborhood, but recently, a lot of homes have been changing into condos to allow more people in the area,” says Julie Andrews, a sales associate with Keller Williams Evolution who has been serving Salem for over 10 years. “These homes are commonly packed tightly together and placed closer to the street, maximizing the backyard space available to residents. Multiunit residences and townhouses can range from $300,000 to around $850,000, and single-family homes can cost between $550,000 and $800,000.

Recreation alongside the Sergent James Ayube Memorial Drive
Gonyea Park and Charles R. Curtis Memorial Park are smaller parks with colorful playsets less than a block from homes or the local elementary school. Residents also have access to nearby Collins Cove Park, which has pickleball courts, a baseball diamond and views of the water. Remond Park offers a quiet sitting area with plenty of benches for residents to look out on the Rams Horn Channel. “It’s a cute little spot built within the last 8 years,” Andrews says. “It was built in the spot where the old bridge leading to Beverly was.”
Collins Cove Playground has a newer Pickle Ball court.

Fresh pastries and roast beef sandwiches
Bridge Street is home to a few dining and shopping options. Mornings often start at Coffee Time Bake Shop, a local spot known for its bismarks and other baked goods made from scratch. Andrews says that she is a fan of their egg sandwiches. Just a little way up the road is Bill & Bob's Roast Beef, a small local chain offering classic sandwiches. The North of Boston Media Group crowned them as having the best roast beef on the North Shore in September of 2024. Residents can shop at Richdale Convenience Store, or head 3 miles south to the Target and Market basket at Hawthorne Square.

Christmas and yard sales in Salem
One of the biggest events each year is Salem's Christmas tree lighting. In late November, Santa descends from the roof of the historic Hawthorne Hotel and hops on the back of a fire truck. He parades down Main Street before stopping at Lappin Park to light the tree. Andrews notes that one of the other popular events for the Bridge Street community is the neighborhood yard sale in May.
