Vance Jackson, just northwest of downtown San Antonio, is a collection of small subdivisions and gated communities that form a larger neighborhood. Named after Brigadier General William Houston Jackson and Army Barracks builder William Vance, the community offers a variety of housing styles, sizes and price points. “Being in these subdivisions and gated communities is what brings the residents to the area,” says Michael McCall, central Texas native and Realtor with Life in San Antonio Texas Home Group. “They enjoy the amenities specific to where they live, but still have the option to venture out.” The neighborhood is located near downtown, the Medical Center, San Antonio International Airport and the University of Texas San Antonio, putting residents near major employers. Large shopping malls and highly rated local schools in the Northside Independent School District add to the area’s appeal.

Condos in Colonies Village and luxury homes in Elm Creek
Vance Jackson consists of smaller subdivisions, ranging from condo communities like Colonies Village to gated subdivisions like Elm Creek. Elm Creek is the city's first gated residential community, known for its Colonial Revival and Spanish Revival-style homes that sell for $900,000 to $2 million. Most of Vance Jackson’s other subdivisions have tidy yards and single-family homes in various styles, from simple contemporary and ranch-style properties to experimental Midcentury Moderns. Bordered by I-10 to the west and I-410 to the south, Vance Jackson has fast access to the rest of San Antonio. The neighborhood is also filled with VIA Metropolitan stops along major streets like Vance Jackson and Callaghan roads, giving locals another option to travel through the city. The community is situated between the San Antonio International Airport and the city’s Medical Center, with large facilities like University Health University Hospital, Methodist Hospital and St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital. “Here, there are more people who want to be centrally located, near downtown, and have an easy commute,” says Misti Rios, a Realtor with Keller Williams San Antonio who has worked in the city for over 17 years. “People who travel a lot for business like to be near the airport. Location is really the main thing here.” The area is surrounded by a diverse array of houses of worship, including churches, synagogues, Buddhist temples and gurdwaras, all within 5 miles.
