Edgemere offers affordability and a central location in Savannah

Single-story homes and large live oaks line Edgemere’s gridded streets. In this entirely residential neighborhood, housing prices are significantly more affordable than those in surrounding areas. At the same time, Edgemere maintains easy access to all that Savannah has to offer, both practical and fun. Located near Harry S. Truman Parkway and East Victory Drive, it’s a short distance from large shopping centers, Daffin Park, Historic Savannah and the medical centers in South Garden

What to know about buying a home in Edgemere

You’ll find mostly single-story bungalows and ranch-style homes here. "In Edgemere, you're looking at a lot of homes from the late '50s and early '60s," says David D'Arcy, Realtor with Seaport Real Estate, who has sold many homes in the area. "So, there are a lot of three-bedroom, one-bathroom and three-bedroom, two-bathroom ranchers." Lot sizes are typically modest, and houses have been renovated to varying degrees. Depending on size, age and condition, prices generally range from the high $200,000s to the low $400,000s. Edgemere is known for its relative affordability compared to nearby neighborhoods, with a median single-family home price about $200,000 lower than in Parkside or Ardmore-Gould Estates-Olin Heights and $400,000 lower than in Ardsley Park-Chatham Crescent.

Easy access to Daffin Park

Daffin Park, one of Savannah’s most popular outdoor spaces, sits about a mile north. There, you’ll find:

  • Grayson Stadium, home ballpark of the Savannah Bananas
  • Athletic facilities, including multipurpose fields and tennis courts
  • A public swimming pool
  • A dog park, with areas for large and small breeds
  • Walking trails around a scenic lake
“Daffin Park is a destination. Even those who don’t live adjacent to it will go there,” says Scott Dole, a real estate agent with Compass Georgia, LLC, and a longtime Savannah resident. “It attracts a lot more locals than tourists because it’s quieter than Forsyth Park [in Historic Savannah] and has more of a neighborhood feel.”

How school choice works in Savannah

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System serves Edgemere. Students can apply to magnet and specialty school choice programs, with placements based on a district lottery and program-specific criteria. In-district transfers depend on available space. Out-of-district transfers are possible but limited by capacity and district policies.

Navigating Savannah from Edgemere

Edgemere is known for its central location and easy access to surrounding areas. Here’s what you should know about getting around from the neighborhood:

  • Memorial Health University Medical Center is roughly a mile south.
  • Historic Savannah is about 5 miles away via Truman Parkway.
  • Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is about 15 miles away.
  • Chatham Area Transit buses serve the area.
  • Tybee Island is roughly 20 miles east.
“It’s 10 to 15 minutes from downtown, and 10 to 15 minutes from Midtown shopping areas, where there are grocery stores and restaurants, so ease of access to anywhere is a draw,” Dole says. “You could even bike a lot of places.”
