Sellersburg offers growth and opportunity north of Louisville

Sellersburg is a fast-growing southern Indiana town, just north of Jeffersonville and about 12 miles from downtown Louisville. A diverse housing market appeals to homebuyers, who are drawn to highly regarded Silver Creek schools and convenient access to major job centers on both sides of the Ohio River. Amenities-filled parks and a local golf course add to the community's appeal.

A mix of older, midcentury and contemporary homes

Sellersburg's housing market is predominantly single-family homes, with brick ranch-style homes on spacious lots common throughout the area. Many have attached garages, and some include finished basements that add significant living space. Older homes are concentrated in the heart of the community, while contemporary homes can be found in planned subdivisions. The town's modern growth is reflected in new and ongoing construction. Prices start at under $100,000 for fixer-uppers and typically range into the $600,000s for the largest contemporary homes. The median sales price in the low $300,000s is higher than Jeffersonville, Clarksville and New Albany.

Four schools in the highly rated local district

The community is served by the Silver Creek School Corporation, which earns a B-plus from Niche. Jesse Allen, owner and CEO of AGL Properties, says local schools are a major draw for homebuyers who choose Sellersburg. Students can attend four schools from preschool through 12th grade: Silver Creek Primary School, Silver Creek Elementary School, Silver Creek Middle School and Silver Creek High School. Students at the high school can enroll in Project Lead the Way programs in engineering and biomedical sciences.

Access to job centers on both sides of the river

Residents have easy access to several Louisville-area employment centers, including opportunities close to home. “There’s a myriad of jobs and careers nearby,” says Samantha Hernandez of Green Tree Real Estate Services. An Amazon fulfillment center at the River Ridge Commerce Center in Jeffersonville is the anchor of a transportation and logistics hub along state Road 62. Meanwhile, Interstate 65 provides direct access to the jobs and attractions of downtown Louisville. The 12-mile commute can be made in under 20 minutes. Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, a much larger transportation and logistics hub, is about 17 miles and 25 minutes away via I-65.

A variety of parks and a local golf course with PGA ties

Silver Creek Township Park spans more than 40 acres with a walking trail, dog park and sports facilities. It hosts the town's signature event, "Sellersburg Celebrates!" each August. The three-day community celebration includes carnival rides, a car show, a 5K and a pageant. In the heart of town, Wilkerson Park hosts community events such as Shakespeare in the Park and the annual Memorial Day ceremony. Mosley Park features the town's public pool and splash pad. The historic Speed Park, a small community gathering place for more than a century, was recently purchased by Silver Creek Township to preserve it as a public park. In addition, “Woehrle Athletic Complex was a notable addition to the area,” Hernandez says. The Jeffersonville facility has fields for football, soccer and lacrosse and regularly hosts tournaments.

Golfers can stay in town and hit the links. Covered Bridge Golf Club has a course designed, in part, by former PGA star and major champion Fuzzy Zoeller.
