Suburban residences are only a short drive from The Grounds
Secluded suburbs minutes from Mobile Flea Market and The Grounds draw residents to Glen Acres. Tall pine and oak trees surround homes, but residents are always close to dining and retail. "A big perk of that area is that you're close to that West Mobile shopping area on Schillinger Road," says Realtor Aleta Boudreaux with Azalea Real Estate Agency, who has sold homes for 40 years. "There's a ton of restaurants, grocery stores, clothing stores--there's almost everything you need in one area." In addition to retail, The Grounds is home to the annual Greater Gulf State Fair. Boudreaux notes other events at The Grounds. "There are vintage markets, antique shows, dog shows and an annual chocolate tasting-- you're close to so many local events," Boudreaux says.
Ranch-style homes in West Mobile
Glen Acres features narrow residential roads that spread out amongst thick willow, pine and oak trees. Homes tend to sit back from the road, with good-sized yards dotted with mature trees or bushy brambles. Residents tend to stay in Glen Acres long-term, with homes rarely hitting the market. Previously sold homes included brick or siding ranch-style homes typically sold between $95,000 and $120,000. There are also occasionally lots for building custom homes, with prices ranging between $30,000 and $90,000. "There are mostly older subdivisions here, but there are also newer homes here, though they can be more expensive," Boudreaux says. Homes in these New Traditional subdivisions close off Howell's Ferry Road previously sold from $440,000 to $470,000.

Popular splash pad at Semmes Municipal Park
Nearby, Semmes Municipal Park is a dog-friendly green space with an exercise area and playground, so visitors can get in a workout while keeping an eye on the kiddos. Boudreau also notes the park's popular splash pad, which is well-loved during the summer. About 5 miles from Glen Acres, Municipal Park features an 18-hole disc golf course, a play area and a walking trail around a fishing pond. The trail leads to a footbridge across the pond to the Mobile Museum of Art. The museum offers art classes, social events, and local and national art. Close to Municipal Park, golfers can hit up Azalea City Park, and budding botanists can stroll the walking paths of Mobile Botanical Gardens.

Mobile Flea Market is open every weekend
On Schillinger Road, residents may pick up groceries at Winn-Dixie or Rouses Market. Schillinger Road offers a variety of retail outlets, including big box stores like Target, Walmart, and Hobby Lobby. A mix of chain and locally owned restaurants line Schillinger and the surrounding roads. Popular options are Sonny's BBQ, a chain for smoked meats and Southern comfort food sides since 1968, or Briquette's, a classic steakhouse with an extensive bar menu. For entertainment, residents can catch a movie at the local AMC theater or play a few rounds at Bowlero bowling alley.
The community is a short drive from Mobile Flea Market. Open on Saturdays and Sundays, the market features over 800 booths of food and artisan vendors. There's live local music and seasonal activities like a fall pumpkin patch.
