Live a suburban lifestyle in the historic Shavertown
With Toby Creek, a tributary of the Susquehanna River, flowing through the communnity, Shavertown is a picturesque residential area sitting in the foothills of the Back Mountain. Named after the early settler who had purchased this land, Philip Shaver, this community, with shops and restaurants all around, has developed into a convenient place to call home in Kingston Township. “Shavertown is higher up in the mountains; it’s more rural and has bigger homes with large lots. The good school district also adds to the price and value of the homes,” says David Rubbico, associate broker at Realty World Rubbico Real Estate, Inc. with over 15 years of experience.
Charming Craftsman homes by the mountains
With verdant woodlands and montane peaks as a scenic backdrop, Shavertown homes are tucked between the Back Mountain and the valley. Properties are built with Colonial Revival, Foursquare, ranch-style and Tudor Revival architecture. A single-family home around 1,500 square feet may be priced between $200,000 and $250,000; bigger residences around 2,500 square feet with four or five bedrooms are typically listed for about $350,000. The area also has several new properties priced close to $550,000. “The homes here have character and charm,” says Noah Doncses, a local agent at Cobblestone Real Estate LLC who has expert knowledge of Northeastern Pennsylvania. “These Craftsman homes are 100 years old, and they were made with different construction practices, which is why they last. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.”
