Home to a little under 4,000 residents, South Russell is a small village just east of its more popular neighbor, Chagrin Falls. Offering larger homes than the Falls, a quieter atmosphere and the same highly rated schools and essentials, this community is a highly sought-after option in the Chagrin Valley. Along with these amenities, South Russell experiences far less crime than the national average. Large homes and a hot market
Homes range from quaint ranches to new traditional homes with more yard space. Large Tudor and Colonial Revivals are also in the mix, sitting on lots as large as 3 acres. Prices range from $175,000 for a modest ranch that needs some loving, to upwards of $1.2 million for a large, modern cape cod on 3 acres. Cul-de-sacs are the standard, and most homes feature long, paved driveways that lead to attached two-car garages. As realtor Nicholas DeVito with EXP Realty explains, “South Russell is a pretty hot market with low inventory.” Houses spend an average of 22 days on the market compared to the US average of 42 days.

Highly rated, Blue Ribbon Certified schools
Students attend schools within the Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools district, which boasts an A-plus rating on Niche. “People move into the area for the schools,” says DeVito. The first step for kids is Gurney Elementary, which serves students from pre-K to third grade. Fourth through sixth graders attend Chagrin Falls Intermediate Elementary, and seventh and eighth grade students attend Chagrin Falls Middle. The last step is Chagrin Falls High, which is known for having a 100% graduation rate and above-average state test scores. All of these schools have A ratings on Niche, and the Intermediate, Middle and High Schools are Blue Ribbon Certified.
Nearby dining favorites include Burntwood Tavern and The Sleepy Rooster, and residents can grab a morning cup from Tame Rabbit Specialty Coffee & Roaster. For more options, residents head to The Triangle in Downtown Chagrin or Solon’s shopping district. The Triangle mostly features small, locally owned staples including Chagrin Falls Popcorn Shop, while Solon’s shopping district mostly features larger, nationally recognized shops like Aldi, Ulta and Walgreens. Downtown Chagrin is about 2 miles west of this community, while Solon is about 6 miles southwest. The nearest department stores are Target and Walmart, 10 miles south in Reminderville.

South Russell Village Park
South Russell Village Park is a stretching, lush 87-acre green space with a modest sized playground, walking trails and open green space for field sports. Here, residents hike, bike and walk their dogs across verdant grass-covered paths and hilled terrain. “The park even hosts music events that people get excited for,” DeVito says. The annual Chagrin Jams, a mini-music festival, utilizes the community park to highlight local performers.

Driver-centric layout
With a sprawling design, few paved sidewalks and essentials being a drive away, owning a car is a must in this village. Chillicothe Road runs through the community’s center, while I-422 is about 4 miles south. Cleveland is about 30 miles west of this community and can be reached in about 40 minutes if traffic allows, while Akron is about 34 miles south. Since it features mostly cul-de-sacs and is a good distance from major highways, there is very little through traffic in this village.

Federated Church and Saint Joan of Arc
For Sunday service, most residents head into Downtown Chagrin. Federated Church has been in the community for more than 100 years and is a community staple. Saint Joan of Arc is a Catholic church that has been in the community for 60 years and is home to Saint Joan of Arc Catholic School.
The Golf Dome and attractions in Chagrin Falls
Golf lovers practice their craft at The Golf Dome, a 35,000-square-foot facility that offers indoor practice ranges, lessons for children and adults, fitness training and golf camps. Other activities and entertainment can be found in Chagrin Falls including Chagrin Valley Little Theatre and Chagrin Valley Recreation Center.
