Rural living with privacy in Southeast Springfield

Life in Southeast Springfield is what you make it. Most residents live in the subdivisions that hug the edge of Springfield, while downtown Strafford sits on the border of this rural area. "The biggest draw to that area is privacy while having easy access to everything you need in Springfield," says Avery Grant, a Realtor with Alpha Realty MO, LLC. The rest of the region is marked by rural routes through forest and farmland, where small communities and secluded estates are tucked away. "You get a really safe environment out there," says Grant. "Very comfortable, and where there are communities you'll see a lot of people walking around."

Homes along winding roads

Houses are concentrated along the eastern edge of Springfield in subdivisions with homes that range from remodeled 1970s ranch houses to 2000s homes designed with classic architectural influences like colonial and Tudor styles. These homes are usually priced from the low $300,000s to the low $400,000s. Newly constructed houses are more likely to start around $400,000 and reach up to $550,000. Those in search of total privacy should continue to the far eastern reaches of Greene County, where Tudor-style country manors and French-inspired mansions on 5-plus-acre properties go for anywhere from $700,000 to $3 million.

Big bats and baseball fields

Motorists can't miss the oversized baseball bat and ball on the side of the road at the entrance to Dan Kinney Park. The park was the first in the Springfield area to open a universal playground that's safe for children of all abilities. The park's Miracle League Ball Field is a custom-designed diamond outfitted with a cushioned surface that allows players in wheelchairs or with walkers to join the game without risking injury. The park is free, but locals can elect to buy a membership to the Dan Kinney Family Center at the park for convenient access to a gym, indoor track and game room.
