Nearly equal distances from Cleveland and Akron, with the turnpike in easy reach, Streetsboro puts its people within a half hour of either larger city. Value attracts homebuyers drawn by more reasonable starting home prices than neighboring communities. “Streetsboro is surrounded by Aurora, Twinsburg, and Chagrin Falls. All of those have much higher starting prices for homes,” says Amy McDougald Eckard, who has sold houses 9 years, most recently for Keller Williams Chervenic. “If somebody didn’t have a lot of money to put down, Streetsboro’s a good option.” However, purchasing power might not be enough for homebuyers who desire elegance and style, particularly downtown. “It doesn’t have a quaint downtown. It just doesn’t have that small city charm. That’s one thing people don’t like,” McDougald Eckard says.

Retail, industry, a home for you and me
Most property in Streetsboro is industrial and retail, with homes making up slightly more than 20 percent of the property mix. Stores and industry occupy a chunk of the town’s southwest, with homes arching to the east. Many of those homes were built in the early 1990s. A drive through town shows many of them are vinyl-sided ranch-style homes on sidewalk-free lots with a handful of raised ranches thrown in. “If someone wanted to get into a ranch-style home, they could get in at about $150,000,” McDougald Eckard says. The median price for a single-family home is around $260,000, with most homes selling in the $180,000 to $240,000 range. There are newer, larger homes that sell closer to $500,000. “The same house in Hudson would be 20-25% percent higher, and the property taxes here are lower," McDougald Eckard says. "They could get a fixer-upper starting at around $150,000 and new constructions can cost up to $500,000 plus."
Taking it to the Streetsboro
With the Ohio Turnpike ending in Streetsboro, getting in and out of town is simple. Motorists hop on Interstate 480 to travel north to Cleveland or to 80 for Akron. Be careful, though, to keep in mind all the lane changes, which can be a bit tricky. “Because it’s four lanes, usually you don’t get too much stop-and-go traffic very often. Sometimes it’s six lanes, and if you’re in the wrong lane and find yourself turning where you don’t want to,” McDougald Eckard says.
Wouldn't it be nice to chug a Chuggers
Streetsboro has a wide variety of places for residents to shop and eat, primarily casual dining. “I would guess there’s between 50 and 70 restaurants in Streetsboro,” McDougald Eckard says. “Oh my gosh, anything you could want – Asian, Mexican, Italian – whatever you want, it’s there.” Try Chipotle or Chuggers Bar & Grille.
Streetsboro residents have their pick of shopping spots, too. “For shopping, it’s phenomenal. There’s The Home Depot, Lowes and other stores on the retail level,” McDougald Eckard says, adding that shoppers can head into Aurora to visit the mall there. Closer to home, grocery shoppers can stop by Walmart, Giant Eagle or Aldi.
A city park, a trail by lakeside and J. Arthur Herrick Fen Nature Preserve
Streetsboro has several parks that provide a range of options for adults and children. Streetsboro City Park, near Streetsboro Elementary School, has ballfields, basketball courts, a playground and well-maintained restrooms. Broad and green, Trail Lake Park is a sunny spot with paved paths accessible for strollers, wheelchairs or people who walk assisted by canes. The trail laps Gressard Lake. Lastly, for beautiful woodland trails with some decking, J. Arthur Herrick Fen Nature Preserve has pleasant scenery and just enough space for a walker to spend time with their thoughts.
Improving Streetsboro Schools
Streetsboro City School District educates most community children. Students may attend Campus Intermediate Elementary School and Streetsboro Middle School, both of which Niche rates B-minus, and Streetsboro High School, which Niche rates B. Niche rates the school district C-plus overall. “Streetsboro schools are getting better, but number-wise, they don’t compete with some of the school systems around Streetsboro, which are the best,” McDougald Eckard says, citing a ranking from Cleveland Magazine. “Hudson, right next to Streetsboro, is ranked number three. Aurora is number seven. Streetsboro is number 39 out of 100. It’s not a bad system, but if you’re looking for the top system, it’s not the same.”
The sweetest days are Family Days
This close to two larger cities, Streetsboro residents are as likely to find themselves out of town for events as in town. However, around here, Streetsboro Family Days is the big annual event featuring four days of free concerts, fireworks, rides, games, crafts vendors, food, a dog show and a beer garden. There also are localized events like the ones held by Wild Eagle Saloon, which hosts Karaoke Wednesdays, game night events and A Rockin’ New Year’s Eve Dance Party. Meanwhile, some folks choose to take in events in other communities like neighboring Twinsburg, where Blossom Park has eight concerts every summer. “They’re really great,” McDougald Eckard says.
