Near a major Tallahassee mall
Governor’s Square is an east of downtown Tallahassee neighborhood that shares its name with an indoor shopping center. Retail is here, but so are houses on enclosed streets and well-kept lawns. Brick ranch-style houses sit at the end of driveways paved the color of sand. Forest green bungalows, stone midcentury houses and townhouses with bright blue trim sit on suburban streets ending in cul-de-sacs. Grocery stores like Publix and big box retailers like Target are nearby, and the neighborhood also has indoor activity options, like a bowling alley and a trampoline park. “If you live somewhere near Governor’s Square, you could be downtown in 5-8 minutes,” says Audrey Nedeau, real estate broker at Suite Real Estate, LLC.
The Governor's Square Mall is the namesake for the area.

Shopping along Apalachee Parkway
Some of the best shopping in Tallahassee is in Governor’s Square. Outdoor retail plazas like Gulf Wind Shopping Center and the indoor mall feature some of the biggest names in retail. People shop for clothes at Old Navy and Marshalls, cosmetics at Ulta Beauty and furniture at World Market. Checkers has drive-thru burgers and Bojangles has fried chicken and biscuits. Indoor malls fell out of fashion long ago, but Governor’s Square mall is well-maintained and full of stores like LOFT, Sephora and H&M. Chain restaurants like Miller’s Ale House and Uncle Maddio’s Pizza sit along the highway, and the area also has some local eateries like Aaru’s Multicuisine and G&G Eat In and Takeout, which serves Caribbean fare.
Apalachee Parkway hosts plenty of shopping and dining and leads straight to the capitol.

Rock bands play at Tallahassee amphitheater
In the heart of the neighborhood is Governor’s Park, a 200-acre park with plenty of open space for walking and lying on the grass. Directly west is Cascades Park, which has a splash pad that lights up different colors at night and a manmade waterfall, plus walking pathways surrounding a lake. The Adderly Amphitheater, an outdoor concert venue hosting bands like the Flaming Lips and George Thorogood and the Destroyers, sits within the park. There’s also a paved pathway called the Capital Cascades Trail, which is popular with runners and bikers.
Older one-story homes in Tallahassee
Governor’s Square has several suburban communities, with houses on enclosed, winding roads. Ranch-style homes with fenced-in backyards, brick multifamily homes and cottages sit right next to each other behind grassy front lawns on streets that feel suburban. Home construction happened mostly in the late 20th century. Prices range between $145,000 and $606,000. “The residential areas near there are smaller homes and townhomes that are a little bit older. There’s not really much new over that way,” says Nedeau.
