Leon High offers students choice

Students in Midtown West begin their academic journey at Ruediger Elementary, before moving on to Rae Middle and finishing up at Leon High School. According to Niche, these schools earned grades of B-minus, B, and A, respectively. Recognized as Florida’s oldest continually accredited high school, Leon High was founded in 1871—though its offerings make it feel completely modern, with more than 25 AP courses available in fields such as computer science, Latin and music theory. The school also boasts a robust performing arts program with chorus, orchestra and theatre all on offer. Athletics are another strong point, with the girls’ volleyball team recently winning two state championships, and the competitive cheer team ranked seventh nationally.

Walk to downtown Tallahassee

At just over a mile northwest of downtown, the neighborhood allows residents to be as much a part of urban excitement as they want to be. For commuters, of either the working or studying kind, Florida State University is less than a mile from the neighborhood as well. The area is fairly walkable and bikeable thanks to its proximity to downtown, though public transportation is not particularly strong in Tallahassee.
