Close community on the water
Across the Columbia Drive Bridge from Tampa, in Hillsborough Bay, sits Davis Islands, a pair of islands making up one neighborhood. “It’s a real neighborhood-oriented area, and there is a great sense of community you can see from the events and parties on the islands,” says Shannon Burnett, Davis Islands resident and Realtor with Real Estate Professionals. “Every Christmas, there’s a golf cart parade, and there’s always fireworks on the Fourth of July.” Davis Islands has a mix of housing styles and a vibrant social scene with bars and restaurants on Davis Boulevard. The neighborhood is also home to Tampa General Hospital. “A lot of residents either work at or volunteer at the hospital.” Despite being on an island, the neighborhood is just two miles from downtown Tampa.

Variety of older and newer homes
The median single-family home price in Davis Islands is just over $1.8 million, with townhomes going for a median of $650,000. Early construction from as far back as the 1920s prominently featured soft, pastel-colored Mediterranean-style residential and commercial buildings, with decorative Spanish and Italianate styles mixed in. Many of the structures still stand today and have been granted historic status. Some have been converted into townhouses. “There are traditional ranch homes built in the 1950s, ‘60s, and ‘70s, large Mediterranean homes and new contemporary homes,” says Burnett. “Prices range from around $1 million for smaller established homes up to $12 million for contemporary homes currently being built.” Most homes are on roads with only residential traffic and feature lawns and private driveways. Mature trees shade the spacious and paved sidewalks.

The pool is located on top of a Mediterranean-style structure and features five lap lanes and a splash zone for children. The pups can play at Davis Islands Dog Park, which has a fenced-in grassy area as well as a beach area where dogs can swim. The Davis Islands Beach is crowded with boats, so it’s not the best place for a swim, but locals enjoy laying out on the sand.
