Davis Islands

Variety of older and newer homes
The median single-family home price in Davis Islands is just over $1.8 million, with townhomes going for a median of $650,000. Early construction from as far back as the 1920s prominently featured soft, pastel-colored Mediterranean-style residential and commercial buildings, with decorative Spanish and Italianate styles mixed in. Many of the structures still stand today and have been granted historic status. Some have been converted into townhouses. “There are traditional ranch homes built in the 1950s, ‘60s, and ‘70s, large Mediterranean homes and new contemporary homes,” says Burnett. “Prices range from around $1 million for smaller established homes up to $12 million for contemporary homes currently being built.” Most homes are on roads with only residential traffic and feature lawns and private driveways. Mature trees shade the spacious and paved sidewalks.Plant High is a top school
Kids on the islands head to the highly regarded Hillsborough County Public Schools. The first stop is Gorrie Elementary, before Wilson Middle School. Both received A-minus ratings from Niche and were named among the top public schools in the state. Teens attend Plant High School, which has an A-plus rating from Niche and is ranked as the top school in Hillsborough County. The school was established in 1927 and is known for its STEM programs.Davis Islands Park and rooftop swims
Locals head to the large Davis Islands Park for some outdoor fun. The park has outdoor basketball courts and a playground area for children. The baseball fields are home to the local Little League, and tables provide a spot for an afternoon picnic. The Roy Jenkins Pool is a roof-top pool near Davis Islands Park. The pool is located on top of a Mediterranean-style structure and features five lap lanes and a splash zone for children. The pups can play at Davis Islands Dog Park, which has a fenced-in grassy area as well as a beach area where dogs can swim. The Davis Islands Beach is crowded with boats, so it’s not the best place for a swim, but locals enjoy laying out on the sand.DI Coffee and Duckweed Grocery
Residents kickstart the day at DI Coffee Bar, a café with specialty lattes as well as imported beers and wines available. Thai Island lives up to its name with a bamboo bar and palms in the entryway. This casual spot has indoor and outdoor seating and rotating lunch and dinner menus. For a special night out, locals may head to Oggi Italian. With dim lighting and a rustic atmosphere as well as an extensive wine list, Oggi is a date night favorite. A night out can end at Anchor Tavern, which has a large patio and neon beer signs on the walls. Anchor has plenty of TVs to watch the big games and classic arcade games for entertainment.Shoppers can visit Duckweed Urban Grocery for daily necessities and more. Duckweed is known for its locally grown produce, vegan options and craft beer selection. For a more extensive grocery experience, there is a Publix right across the Columbia Drive Bridge on Florida’s mainland. For retail, Hyde Park Village is a short drive away, offering dozens of boutique stores and a movie theater for the newest blockbuster releases.
Hop on the HART
Locals can get around on Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority buses. The HART makes stops along Davis Boulevard. Drivers will need to cross to the mainland for access to neighboring areas. Just to the north is Interstate 275, and Interstates 4 and 75 are also close by for convenient travel by car.
