Coastal meets urban

Reaching out into Old Tampa Bay, Rocky Point provides locals with a blend of urban and residential life, blanketed by relaxing bay air. A collection of isles juts out into the water, offering direct access to the bay. "It's right there at the bridge, too," says Whitney Lohr, Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway and longtime resident of the area. "So it's one of the most convenient places to live in all of the Tampa area." With the area's unique blend of coastal and urban access, Rocky Point is an intriguing option for those who want to have the best of both worlds.

Rusty Pelican serves up fine dining and views of the bay

Those looking for shopping and dining options have plenty to choose from when considering how close the area is to Tampa, but staying closer to home is also an option. Rusty Pelican sits on the tip of the Southern border, overlooking the rippling bay. This seafood restaurant offers a fine dining experience. "My favorite place in the whole area might be Rusty Pelican," says Lohr. "It has the most amazing views of the bay." The establishment suggests planning a trip ahead with a reservation, as they are at high demand. Further inland, Wandee Asian Fusion Thai offers a more casual experience. Guests can choose from a range of colorful entrees and finish the night with mochi ice cream. Rocky Point includes a few small markets, but grocery stores require a commute out of the area.

Water, greenery, and open spaces

For family gatherings or after-school activities, several local parks offer playgrounds, grassy spaces and sporting courts. Residents can launch a kayak expedition at Sweetwater Park where the creek winds down into the open bay. Pam Callahan Nature Preserve is a haven for wildlife watchers. The array of visiting birds and animals encourages guests to come equipped with binoculars, a camera or a sketch pad. This is a great spot for locals, young or old, to appreciate Tampa’s natural landscape. The paved Courtney Campbell Causeway Trail allows residents to bike, walk, or jog across the bay. Easy access to the beach is also always available for residents. "From just about anywhere in that area, you can be at the beach in minutes," says Lohr.

Downtown Tampa is around 10 miles away for additional opportunities, with Tampa International Airport also right next door (meaning noise may occasionally be an issue). "It's great for people who want to be right there in the action, but feel a little bit farther out," says Lohr.
