Residential neighborhood less than a mile from Temple's historic district

Brimming with midcentury homes, the Jackson Park District is a primarily residential neighborhood built around an active community park. "Jackson Park is very well known in the Temple community and provides great connectivity, great access to green space, and our park, the heart of the district, is a popular central gathering space," says Megan Price, Public Relations Coordinator for the City of Temple. Schools are nearby, as are other popular parks, and the neighborhood is home to Temple landmarks like the Seven Star and Hillcrest cemeteries. The Historic District of downtown Temple and all its dining and shopping is less than a mile away.

Architectural gems in Jackson Park

The tree-lined neighborhood offers mostly midcentury bungalows, cottages and ranch-style homes with well-tended yards. Prices range between $175,000 and $300,000, although properties in need of renovations can go for less. Most homes don't have garages, and though many have driveways, street parking is common.

Jackson Park is the community heart of the neighborhood

Jackson Park is a community gathering spot with a playscape for kids, walking trails, basketball courts and picnic areas. Miller Park is less than a mile away in neighboring Bellaire and features 30 acres of green space, a kids' splash pad and playground and fitness stations along a walking trail. Also nearby is Whistle Stop Park, a train-themed playground where real trains pass by. At Xtreme Jump Adventure Park, kids can play laser tag, ride go-karts or catch air on trampolines.

Holiday celebrations at Jefferson Elementary and Friday Night Lights at Temple High

Students are served by the Temple Independent School District. Jefferson Elementary receives a B from Niche, while Lamar Middle School receives a B-minus. Earning a B rating, Temple High features football, soccer and more at its 11,500-seat Wildcat Stadium.

Shopping and eating locally is popular in Temple

Other than the neighborhood's Mexican restaurant Tres Magueyes, dining options are mostly found downtown, less than a mile south. First Street Roasters serves steaming cappuccinos paired with sweet pastries, and for a slice and cold pint, locals walk over to Treno Pizzeria and Taproom. On weekends, Melody’s Brunch & Bar boasts indulgent waffles and fancy cocktails. For nightlife, there’s Mo’s Rail Yard Saloon & Grill and Green Door on Second with live piano shows. Collectibles and comics line the shelves at The Book Cellar and Parlour Antiques and Oddities, located inside the historic Kyle Hotel, is home to one-of-a-kind treasures, taxidermy pieces and home décor. Essentials can be found nearby at Walmart or H-E-B.

Fall festival at local park

The neighborhood offers an annual Fall-tacular festival in Jackson Park with fair food and live entertainment. Locals can head to downtown Temple on the first Friday of every month for late-night shopping, lively music, diverse cuisine and drinks. The city's Annual Christmas Parade starts downtown and is one of the many holiday events in the city.
