Park-filled neighborhood at the base of Bull Mountain
Though Jack Park spreads across the valley north of Bull Mountain’s base, it’s still considered to be part of the hillside community. With expansive green spaces, nearby shopping centers and well-rated schools, the neighborhood has the suburban conveniences residents appreciate about nearby Bull Mountain. “The Bull Mountain area is jam-packed full of parks with trails that weave through almost all of them,” says Kacie Green, a real estate broker and the team manager for the Steve Nassar Team of Premiere Property Group, LLC, who lives in the neighborhood. “Oregonians love a sunny day.”
Jack Park’s two playgrounds and community garden
Jack Park is the neighborhood’s central green space and has a basketball court and two playgrounds—one designed for toddlers from 2 to 5 years old, and a second for kids 5 to 12. Next to one of the playgrounds, those with a green thumb maintain fruits and vegetables at the Jack Park Community Garden, though plot reservations tend to fill up. Windmill Park is one of the neighborhood's smaller green spaces, composed of a bench, a bus stop and a windmill built in 1909, symbolizing the community’s agricultural origins. Summerlake Park stretches across 30 acres in the north of the neighborhood, encompassing a picnic shelter, pickleball, tennis and basketball courts, a ballfield and two playgrounds. "Summerlake Park is right down the street from my family and me, and we spend time there when the weather is nice," says Karen Pinto, the assistant property manager of Sunflower Apartments. Towering evergreens and their needle-covered branches hover over the park’s lake, providing shade for the ducks, Canadian geese, herons and otters that live near it. Designated fishing areas line the lake’s northern bank, and vibrant rhododendrons border the walking trails that surround the water. The Summerlake Dog Park is equipped with benches for dog owners to rest while their pups play.
