City living at a fraction of the cost
ONYX is named after its community development corporation, the Organized Neighbors Yielding Excellence group. Developed in the late 19th century as Toledo extended its streetcar routes, the community has outlasted the streetcars themselves. West of downtown and the Maumee River, ONYX offers housing prices that are significantly lower than the regional average. The neighborhood features an array of parks and churches, as well as a new library and community center. Investors are taking note of the low prices and the improvements. "It's very affordable. It's close to the expressway and downtown," says Tom Schetter, a 16-year Realtor with the Loss Realty Group. "It's this neighborhood, along with others, that makes Toledo one of the best cities to invest in."
