Classic homes and close-knit charm define West Trumbull
West Trumbull, locally known as St. Theresa, is a residential neighborhood that prides itself on its well-rounded lifestyle in southern Connecticut. Anchored by St. Theresa Church, the community is defined by its classic New England architecture and suburban atmosphere outside of Trumbull. “Homes have a lot of charm here,” says local sales associate Fredda Takacs of Coldwell Banker Realty, adding that the close-knit quarters foster the neighborhood’s sense of community. “There’s a more cohesive feel because people are closer together, which makes it friendlier and especially makes trick-or-treating easier.” West Trumbull also has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of a possible 10, lower than the national average of 4.
Colonial and Cape Cod homes on smaller suburban lots
The neighborhood has a suburban feel due to homes being strung together closely on its residential streets. “Lots have a smaller dimension on average, closer to a quarter to half an acre,” Takacs says. Architecture reflects the New England community; colonial-style and Cape Cod homes are most common, with a few minimalistic ranch and raised ranch styles peppered in. Price tags for single-family homes typically start at around $400,000. As square footage increases, so do prices, with homes over 2,500 square feet starting in the $600,000s. The largest homes can reach about $650,000, and some outliers include more expansive, luxury builds fetching up to $1 million.
Public schools earn high marks and draw families to the area
Trumbull Public Schools serves West Trumbull residents, earning an overall A score from Niche. Students may begin at Frenchtown Elementary School, which gets an A-minus. Takacs says the elementary school is a draw for families: “Frenchtown is the newest school in Trumbull and so the area is really popular for that.” Kids can continue to the A-minus-rated Madison Middle School before advancing to Trumbull High School, which maintains an A score. The high school is known for its strong academics, college readiness and competitive athletic program. Parents may also opt to enroll their kids in top-rated private and faith-based schools such as Christian Heritage School and St Andrew School, which both maintain A-plus ratings on Niche. St Theresa Church also has a school serving prekindergarten through eighth grades that is not yet rated. The neighborhood is adjacent to Sacred Heart University, a private Catholic institution offering a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Parks offer courts, trails and scenic views across the area
The many public parks and open spaces help foster a suburban feel in the community. Island Brook Park is a tract of 47 acres that features a few athletic facilities like basketball courts, tennis courts and a multi-purpose field. The brook and pond offer scenic views year-round, and a playground is also available. Additional surrounding smaller parks include Davidow Park, Gunther Pond Park and Anthony Aldo Memorial Park. All offer tranquil spots to unwind or walk a trail. Residents need a valid sticker to park in any Trumbull public park. For more extensive hikes, locals can wander the trails at Indian Ledge Park, a tract that stretches 104 acres. The Pequannock Valley Greenway passes through the park and offers almost 6 miles of pathway for hiking and biking.
Trumbull Mall and Brookside Center offer shopping convenience
Located just south of the neighborhood along Route 15, Trumbull Mall houses many convenient shopping options, from big-box retailers like Macy’s and Target to familiar brands like Express and The Children’s Place. Brookside Center, farther south on Main Street, has additional stores like Marshalls and grocery stores like Stop & Shop and Price Rite Marketplace. Favorite eateries in the neighborhood include Sitting Duck Tavern, an industrial-style restaurant serving elevated American plates, and Old Towne Restaurant, which offers a more laid-back, casual atmosphere.
Route 15 and Highway 25 connect to nearby towns and cities
Residents here rely mostly on cars for transportation and have nearby access to major roads like Route 15 and Highway 25, with proximity to towns like Easton, Bridgeport, Fairfield and Stratford. Route 8 runs along the southeast portion of Trumbull and links to Bridgeport. The Stratford train station links commuters to New Haven and New York City. The closest airport is Tweed New Haven Airport, about 22 miles away. Yale New Haven Health Park Avenue Medical Center is the nearest hospital, approximately 3 miles west of the neighborhood.
