Life with all of Tucson at “your fingertips”
Tucson’s Colonia Solana puts a small but upscale neighborhood down the road from a strip featuring a comedy club and eateries serving anything from East African cuisine to craft cocktails. Additionally, this neighborhood located just miles from downtown Tucson borders a city gem: Gene C. Reid Park. A zoo, dog park and community concerts are only a few of the amenities and activities at the nearly 160-acre green space. And while many come here to be closer to city life, they’re still treated to distant views of the surrounding mountains. “Reid Park is a big deal. You get to enjoy all that without crossing main traffic,” says Tony Ray Baker, a Realtor with Re/Max Professionals. “There’s tons of stuff around this property. Tucson’s at your fingertips from every direction.”
Southwestern homes with room and luxury features
Despite the neighborhood’s size, prospective buyers can find some room as many lots range from just under a half-acre to right over 1 acre. Curving roads run across landscapes covered with barrel, prickly pear and saguaro cacti, palms and other trees common in this vast desert. Home footprints span at least a few thousand square feet, and architectural forms on display include the region’s Spanish designs, ranch-style and some spacious contemporary builds from the 20th century. Some homes come with luxury features like pools and expansive windows. Single-family home costs go from under $1 million to approximately $1.5 million. Buyers seeking smaller spaces can find condos between $300,000 and $350,000.
Artisan breads, Ethiopian cuisine and craft cocktails on Broadway
A wide range of eateries exist nearby along East Broadway Boulevard. Barrio Bread’s artisan loaves have earned the local institution a James Beard award. “It has a line out the door every single morning. It’s that popular,” Baker says. Morning commuters can also fuel up at Ombre Coffee, where breakfast includes sweet pastries or hearty plates of eggs, potatoes and gravy. The cafe offers an outdoor patio where patrons can talk and mingle under some hanging lights. Zemam’s Ethiopian Cuisine adds to the cultural options, while SideCar is a night time hangout known for its craft cocktails. These restaurants exist around a shopping center with a few small specialty stores. Health-conscious shoppers can stop at Natural Grocers, while chains include Walmart and Target.
Tucson’s “Central Park”
The zoo is among Reid Park’s main attractions. The various exhibits include an aviary featuring flamingos and ostriches and rhino and grizzly bear habitats. The African elephants and big cats are a few of the other popular inhabitants. Elsewhere in the park, visitors can go around a scenic pond and fountain or stop by a rose garden. An amphitheater — the Georges DeMeeser Performance Center — hosts rock and orchestral shows. The park’s other amenities include an aquatic facility and a baseball complex. The park also neighbors the Randolph Golf Complex and its two 18-hole playing grounds. “It’s our ‘Central Park,’” Baker says about Reid Park.
Fall Family Festival and the Boo at the Zoo
The city hosts a few major events in Reid Park, including the Fall Family Festival in November. From morning to night, the free festival offers activities ranging from a turkey trot, yoga and kickball to a scavenger hunt and pumpkin catapult. Those attending can also stop by some food trucks and a smores bar. Another park festivity is the Boo at the Zoo, which occurs over several nights in October. Those attending dress up and activities include trick-or-treating opportunities for children.

Located about 8 miles south, the Tucson International Airport is the city’s hub for commercial flights. Banner - University Medical Center Tucson is among the nearest hospital facilities.
