Pinecrest offers both suburban charm and city access in central Tuscan

Pinecrest is in the heart of Tucson, offering both urban convenience and peaceful living. The subdivision is close to schools, lively shopping centers and a wide range of recreational destinations. “I would say it’s a prime location,” says Allie Pastore, Realtor and owner of The Alder Group with over 5 years of experience. “You are hyper local and close to some of the best restaurants in the city. There are local parks you can visit. It could also feel tight knit; you’ll see people walking their dogs and we knew all our neighbors. It’s really an active community, and there are tons of things to do.”

Midcentury homes in desert hues dot the landscape

Most homes in Pinecrest were built in the latter half of the 20th century, giving the neighborhood an established feel with a cohesive architectural character. Rows of stone and brick houses line gridded street blocks, creating a warm desert palette of beige, brown and terra-cotta orange. The community is known for midcentury modern and ranch-style homes. Landscaping typically includes drought-tolerant plants and mature trees that provide shade. Some larger homes can have quarter-acre lots and outdoor pools. “The area is full of older, 1950s to 1970s homes with character,” Pastore says. “It’s well established, and people have lived there for a long time. Another thing is there’s still room for affordability, and it’s a good entry point for a starter home or to become a homeowner.” Single-family homes usually sell from $200,000 to $500,000, and townhouses are between $250,000 and $300,000.

Diverse restaurants, grocery and retail stores around Pinecrest

Pinecrest is central to a variety of shopping and dining options in Tucson. “We were the first city in the country to be a UNESCO City of Gastronomy,” Pastore says. “What that means is we have a really culturally diverse food scene, and it’s a big deal if you love food, because living in this area means you have access to some of the best restaurants in Tucson.” Popular eateries in the area include Amelia's Mexican Kitchen and Kiwani Ramen, a cozy noodle bar. Zayna Mediterranean Restaurant serves Middle Eastern dishes. Grocery shopping is just as convenient, with Trader Joe’s, Sprouts and the Mexican market Carnicería Los Toritos all nearby. Big-box stores like Target and Walmart are located less than 5 miles south of the neighborhood.

Pinecrest residents have many recreational options. The neighborhood pocket park, Pinecrest Park, has a playground, a multipurpose green field and a grill area for picnics and get-togethers. Farther north, Fort Lowell Park is a larger city park with comprehensive sports facilities, ball fields for youth leagues and a large play area with a splash pad. Located west of the community, Tucson Botanical Gardens provide a tranquil escape with a dozen themed gardens and seasonal exhibits. Arizona Golf Exchange offers indoor golf with simulated courses, and the private Tucson Country Club has an 18-hole course, as well as a pool and tennis facilities. “Tucson is also a huge hiking and cycling community,” Pastore says. “You can find many nature trails [outside of city limits] within a 30-minute drive. For cyclists, Pinecrest has easy access to the Tucson Loop.” This loop is a paved recreational trail that circles the city and spans 131 miles.

Annual events celebrate Tucson's diverse cultural heritage

Locals can enjoy some of Tucson’s most celebrated annual events. Each January, the Tucson Jazz Festival brings world-class performances and live entertainment to the city. Tucson Meet Yourself is held in October, highlighting the city’s rich cultural diversity through global food, music and craft events. “We are a big center for all the diverse cultures in the state, and the festival showcases all the different cultures that are in Tucson.” Cyclists come together for El Tour de Tucson in November, drawing thousands of riders for a race that winds through the city. “It’s like Tour de France except it’s in Tucson,” Pastore says.
