Life revolves around boating on Twin Lake’s four lakes
Nestled in the countryside of northern Muskegon County, the Twin Lake community centers around four lakes that shape everyday life. Homebuyers are often drawn to its boating-focused style, where private docks, beaches and waterfront recreation are part of the neighborhood experience. A varied mix of lakefront and inland homes offer a number of living options, while local parks and easy access to Muskegon make the area convenient for business and pleasure.
A mix of lakefront homes and larger inland properties
Homes in Twin Lake range from midcentury ranch-style houses to 21st-century custom builds. Prices often start in the high $100,000s and can climb to $800,000, depending on a home's condition and features such as private docks. Homes farther from the water often make up for the lack of lake views with larger lots, many of which are an acre or more. The average home value in Twin Lake falls in the mid-$300,000s, generally making it more expensive than Egelston and Muskegon Township but less than Fruitland.
How residents spend time on and around the water
It’s no surprise that much of the area’s recreation centers around its many lakes. Marilyn Tucker, a Realtor with Tucker Benner Realty, says that relaxing on the water is a daily activity for many locals. “It’s not uncommon to see several pontoons linked together, floating around,” she says. “Pretty much every night, there’s a pontoon parade where everyone circles around the lakes.” Tall oak trees shade the grounds of Twin Lake Park, which includes about 800 feet of waterfront. Visitors can launch boats, play pickleball or spend time at the playground. Padley Park offers a smaller public beach with about 250 feet of lakefront for swimming. “The lakes aren’t too big or too small and there’s plenty of activity,” says Tucker. “Sometimes we’ll have water skiing shows.”
Community-funded Fourth of July fireworks
Organized cookouts and fundraisers are held throughout the year to raise money for Fourth of July fireworks. According to Tucker, the community usually raises around $22,000 a year. “It’s a 110-acre party,” says Tucker about the Fourth of July at Twin Lake. “People are out swimming and barbecuing. And by nightfall, we watch the fireworks set off from the island in the middle of the water.”
Multiple public school districts serve Twin Lake families
Depending on location, Twin Lake addresses may be assigned to Reeths-Puffer Schools, Whitehall District Schools or Holton Public Schools. Twin Lake School is an institution in the community for pre-kindergarten through fourth grade students. While this one is close by, the rest of the schools are around 10 miles away in the Muskegon area.
Major roads provide access to nearby cities and flights
U.S. Highway 31 runs through the area, and Holton Road connects to nearby Muskegon, just over 10 miles away. Muskegon County Airport is about 17 miles away and offers flights to Chicago O'Hare International Airport.
Dining favorites and convenient shopping in nearby towns
You won't find a huge restaurant district in Twin Lake, but there are several well-known spots nearby for everything from comfort food to family recipe pizza. Some notable places to eat include:
- Effin Bar and Plate Lickers Fun Dining, a restaurant with a spacious backyard patio, games and specialties like Asian Chicken Pizza
- The Overboard Inn, a local diner known for breakfast favorites like stuffed hash browns and homemade cinnamon rolls
- Lombardo's Sicilian Pizza, a pizzeria using a 1957 family recipe with dough and sauce made fresh daily
Many residents head toward nearby North Muskegon and Whitehall for everyday shopping. Popular stops include Meijer for groceries and household goods, while nearby retail corridors along Holton Road and in the White Lake area offer a mix of local shops, specialty stores and other essentials.
