Tranquility and seclusion under the shade of a green canopy
In The Woods, a quiet residential enclave in South Tyler, residents really do feel like they’re living in the woods. The neighborhood features a lush, green canopy of oak and pine trees that tower over stately homes and well-manicured front lawns. The roots of these trees run as deep as the homeowners who have lived here for many years. “Generations of families live in The Woods,” says Doug Crutcher, local Realtor and Co-owner of The Crutcher and Hartley Team, RE/MAX Properties. “To go from helping a married couple find a house to them helping their kids find a house years later is special; it’s a close-knit community with long-term relationships,” While the large lots may provide residential seclusion, it is only physical in nature, as the communal spirit of the neighborhood consistently brings homeowners together to celebrate holidays, birthdays and everything in between. And to the majority of those living in Tyler, the charm of The Woods is no secret. “It’s one of Tyler’s most exclusive neighborhoods,” says Kenzi Anderson, marketing director for The Crutcher & Hartley Team, RE/MAX Properties. “Everyone knows it, and it's not done growing; it's flourishing, and we have more people moving in all the time.”

Wide variety of architectural styles on large grassy lots
The Woods was developed in 1993 and is the largest single master planned community in East Texas. Across the neighborhood’s 750 acres, various architectural designs sit on wide, curvy roads and cul-de-sacs. Stately ranch-style houses with brick exteriors are a popular style and occupy large, grassy lots. Contemporary Colonial Revivals can also be found scattered throughout, while Tudor mansions and Spanish-inspired villas fill in the gaps. The two community lakes provide backyard waterfront views for properties along their shores. Prices for modest, ranch-style builds range between $350,000 and $550,000, while larger estate homes price between $700,000 and $1 million. The neighborhood has multiple property owners’ associations that provide maintenance of properties and community amenities, including tennis courts and swimming pools.

Those looking for a book to read by the pool can choose from the selection found in the local book share. “Neighbors wanted to encourage summer reading,” Anderson says, “If you take a book, you have to leave a book, and it’s really cool because it’s maintained by the neighbors.” Dogs and kids alike enjoy the small open green space found at Lena’s Park, located next to the community pool. UT Tyler has numerous amenities for more intense outdoor recreation, including an 18-hole disc golf course and 5 miles of mountain biking trails. The crack of the bat is a familiar sound at Golden Road Park. The city green space located 2 miles away features multiple baseball diamonds and soccer fields.
