Situated between Appalachian Mountain peaks in Krise Valley, Walker Township is a rural community with farmland and a recent boom of single-family housing development. With only a handful of roads in and out of town, residents have a sense of seclusion while also having metro area amenities less than 20 miles away in State College. “It’s more of a quiet, residential area,” says Samantha Hassinger, a Realtor with RE/MAX Centre Realty, who’s been selling homes here for two years. “There’s not a whole lot that brings people to the township.”

Contemporary-style homes starting in the $400,000s in Walker Township
Most of the homes here are contemporary-style built in the 2000s. Some were built in the early 2000s, but several neighborhoods are still being developed so the homes are brand new. Houses usually sit on half-acre lots and come with driveways and attached garages. These three- to four-bedroom homes range from $400,000 to $700,000. There are also national-style homes from the late 1800s and ranch-style houses from the mid-1900s that usually sell for $200,000 to $400,000. Two-bedroom townhouses range from $200,000 to $300,000. “It’s an affordable township that’s good for first-time homebuyers,” says Hassinger. The CAP Index gives Walker Township a crime score of 1 out of 10, which is lower than the national average of 4.
Contemporary homes are most popular in Walker with new developments currently being built.
Ranch homes are a more modest option in Walker for those needing less space.

Ski club at Bellefonte Area High
Students may start at Marion-Walker Elementary, which earns a B-plus from Niche, before going to Bellefonte Area Middle, which receives a B-minus. Bellefonte Area High gets a B and offers a range of extracurricular activities including Ananda, the school’s literary arts magazine, and a ski club.
Bellefonte Area High School has a student to teacher ratio of 14 to 1.
Students from Walker can continue their education at nearby Penn State University.

There’s a Dollar General along East College Avenue. Nittany Meats is a local butcher shop in Zion village and Weis Markets is 5 miles west near Bellefonte. Hublersburg Inn has been a local staple since 1827, serving spirited American cuisine in a historic building that once operated as a hotel. The town's Fall Festival is held each year at Walker Township Park. The event features local vendors, live performances and family-friendly activities. The Hublersburg Inn also hosts Live on the Patio, a summer concert series with weekly performances.
Soccer and basketball at Walker Township Park
Walker Township Park is in the center of town with sports facilities and a playground. The Nittany Country Club has a nine-hole golf course, a pro shop and an outdoor swimming pool for members. The James Cleveland Trail is a 4-mile, out-and-back hiking area at the southern end of town.
Dogs enjoy the outdoors with campers at Bald Eagle State Park.

Close to I-80
Because of its rural layout, Walker Township is car-dependent. Nittany Valley Drive is the main road in and out of town, connecting residents to Interstate 80. The closest hospital is the Mount Nittany Medical Center, which is located 13 miles west. State College Regional is the closest airport, also located 13 miles west.
