Homes are found in a small residential pocket

Despite its limited number of options, there is a surprising amount of variety in West Buechel. There’s everything from shotgun-style homes and small bungalows to ranch-style homes and multi-level residences built in recent years. Prices range from the high $100,000s to the high $200,000s.
Housing is concentrated in the southeast corner on a handful of truncated streets. “It’s just a quiet area,” says Bernice Morales, property manager at Royal Arms of Louisville Apartments in the community.

Kroger, Walmart and Target in the community; global flavors nearby

“West Buechel has everything close by, especially grocery stores and shopping centers,” Morales says. That’s an understatement, as residents don’t have to leave the neighborhood to shop at Kroger, Walmart, Target and Lowe’s. Diverse dining options are easily accessible as well, with many concentrated along nearby Bardstown Road. Popular stops include:

  • Jamaican Jerk Center, a Caribbean eatery serving flavorful jerk meats and other traditional dishes
  • Chocolate and Nut Kingdom, a specialty shop offering handcrafted sweets, gourmet snacks and gifts

Easy access to several Louisville job centers

The community is conveniently located next door to the industry-heavy city of Watterson Park, and it is just minutes from the GE Appliance Park. Residents are also connected to the metro area's two largest employment centers by nearby Interstate 264. Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport is about 5 miles and 10 minutes away where I-264 connects with Interstate 65. Those two interstates provide access to downtown Louisville, a 10-mile commute that takes about 20 minutes.
