Next to Norton Creek Elementary School is the 41-acre Cornerstone Lakes Park. “I take advantage of the walking path frequently,” Fish says. Walkers and bikers use the path to go around the pond or hook up with another path that heads north to the nearby suburb of Wayne. Community soccer leagues play on fields at the park, and catch-and-release fishing is allowed in the pond, stocked with carp, bluegill, northern pike, and catfish. Dunham Forest Preserve is north of the neighborhood and is on over 200 acres that was once used for agriculture. Today, visitors can explore prairies and wetlands, and birdwatchers and nature lovers scan along trails and skyward for rare species, like northern harriers and marsh birds. There are also over 150 types of flowers in the prairie. The neighborhood is also between St. Andrews Golf and Country and the Royal Fox Country Club.Multiple generations can be served in Cornerstone Lakes
A few pockets of older houses on 1-acre lots, some dating to the late 1800s and early 1900s on Smith Road and North Avenue, are priced between $250,000 and $400,000. The Cornerstone Lakes subdivision houses are inspired by modern Colonial-style architecture, commanding prices between $400,000 to $700,000. “There’s a townhouse development across Smith Road, so Grandma and Grandpa can live there while the rest of the family is in Cornerstone Lakes,” Fish says. The DuPage Airport is close to the neighborhood but only generates a little noise for those living in Cornerstone Lakes. “It’s not a very busy airport - there is the occasional corporate aircraft that uses it, and the site is used for helicopter training,” Fish says. “We get more noise with the occasional jets flying into O’Hare International Airport,” about 32 miles east of St. Charles. The closest Metra commuter rail station is in West Chicago, 6 miles away. The line reaches the Ogilvie Transportation Center downtown in about 50 minutes.Walmart Supercenter and Jewel-Osco are close to the neighborhood

Restaurant options include Augustino’s Rock & Roll Deli and Grill of West Chicago, a retro diner with rock and roll memorabilia hanging on the wall and music playing. The food is made from scratch, and there are gluten-free options. Los Girasoles Restaurant is a quaint restaurant serving traditional Mexican dishes. It is open at 9 a.m. for breakfast. Retail options include Target and Menards, and the latest movie can be seen at the Classic Cinemas Charlestowne 18 Theatre. It's one of the few businesses open in the former Charlestowne Mall that closed in 2017.
