Top-rated schools and access to downtown Westport
Located on the outskirts of Westport, Old Hill is an upscale forested suburb west of the Saugatuck River. Large homes hidden in the hills cost upwards of $1 million. “You’ve got bigger lots in Old Hill, and you’re still close to town,” says Julie Vanderblue, Realtor with Higgins Group Real Estate. Students here can attend schools in the Westport School District, which is graded an A-plus on Niche and is the No. 1 public school district in all of Connecticut. Within 3 miles, locals can reach downtown Westport’s art galleries, boutiques and locally owned restaurants on Main Street. Annual community events like Westport’s Fine Art Festival and a July 4th fireworks show at Compo Beach keep residents busy all year long. Downtown Norwalk is just 4 miles south, and the ocean is only about 6 miles away. With access to downtown nightlife, the nearby Atlantic coastline and luxury estates tucked into forested lots, Old Hill residents have a little bit of everything.
Upscale estates beneath mature Connecticut trees
Most Old Hill home prices start around $1.3 million and can reach over $5 million, though architectural styles vary. Colonial-inspired mansions, New England estates with cottage aesthetics and both modern and rustic farmhouses are tucked away from the road and underneath mature trees. "There are some exceptional estates in that area," Vanderblue says. "The neighborhood is convenient but still private, and it’s got its own distinct feel: peaceful and scenic." It’s not uncommon for these residences to have four or more bedrooms, private pools and two-to-three-car garages. Top-of-the-line kitchens, manicured lawns and long, winding driveways are also the norm. Though most homes are tucked away on large estates, those near Merrit Parkway, which cuts through the neighborhood, are close to traffic noise.
For those looking for something cozier, trendy condo units at Bankside House on Wilton Road overlook the Saugatuck River and downtown Westport. With modern industrial designs, two-to-four bedrooms and floor-to-ceiling windows, these condo units can cost between $2.5 and $5 million.

Earthplace nature center, local YMCAs and the Westport Library
The Westport Weston Family YMCA is right on Raymond Lane for family fun and exercise. Though no dogs are allowed, Partrick Wetlands is a preserve with a few walking trails and views of native plants and waterways. But, because the area has many marshy wetlands, some homes could experience wetter seasons or possible flooding near ponds or the preserve. Right near Main Street, folks can study or gather at the Westport Library on 20 Jesup Road, which has a coffee shop and hosts webinars, crafting nights and professional presentations on various topics. Just next to the library is Levitt Pavilion, right on the Saugatuck River, which hosts dozens of live music performances throughout its festival season.
