A neighborhood near the medical park
Located next to Wilmington Medical Park, Glen Meade is an affluent neighborhood with a convenient commute for many of its residents. “The neighborhood draws in a lot of nurses and doctors,” says Sean Skutnik, Realtor with Coldwell Banker Sea Coast Realty, who has lived in Wilmington since the late 1980s. Larger homes on big, leafy lots define the neighborhood. “If people want a cookie-cutter neighborhood, Glen Meade is where they go, or hope to go,” Skutnik says. “There’s not a lot for sale there because it’s only so big, and it’s pretty desirable for the people who can afford it.” While the neighborhood may feel more residential, multiple shopping and dining destinations are just a few miles away.

There are a few condo communities in the neighborhood, including Drayton Square. They typically cost between $450,000 and $600,000. To the east of the neighborhood, Piney Ridge Nature Preserve is home to the Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Garden. In addition to seeing the venus fly traps and other carnivorous plants, there are walking trails and a scenic overlook. Greenfield Park is a 190-acre green space where Wilmingtonians can kayak across Greenfield Lake or explore the 5-mile hike-and-bike trail and spot egrets, turtles and alligators. Away from the water, the park offers a skate park, tennis courts and pickleball courts. The closest beach is Wrightsville Beach, an approximately 10-mile or 20-minute drive, depending on traffic. “It’s definitely one of our more affluent beaches,” says Jake Wyer, a Broker with eXp Realty. “But it can also become a college beach because of its proximity to the university.” A drive to Carolina Beach will take about 13 to 15 miles, or 20 to 30 minutes. Golfers will find the private, Donald Ross-designed Cape Fear Country Club just north of the neighborhood.
