In the 1990s, the city of Wilsonville was home to only 7,500 people. Due to its prime location, the area grew substantially. “Wilsonville has seen a boom,” says Principal Broker Molly Macom of Westlake Properties, who has more than 35 years of experience. Located halfway between Portland and the state capitol in Salem on Interstate 5, Wilsonville has seen its population almost quadruple over the past 30 years. Various home types lie scattered around a nucleus of both big and small retailers. Forest and farmlands surround the neighborhood on all sides, with Downtown Portland 18 miles north.

Some 27,000 residents now live in various builds, ranging widely in price. Sidewalks with street trees and cluster mailboxes are almost universal in this city, as is the case with surrounding neighborhoods developed in the past two decades. On-street parking is widespread, with most subdivisions featuring a communal alley that takes locals to their respective garages. More modest two-bedroom ranch-style homes fetch below $200,000. Adjacent townhomes are priced in the middle at $400,000 to $500,000, some with tiny yards and some without. Macom remembers when Wilsonville had no schools and children had to attend class in West Linn. “That must have been some bus ride,” she says. Students can attend Boeckman Creek Primary, rated B overall by Niche. When they reach Meridian Creek Middle, which rates an A-minus, students can join a number of afterschool groups like orchestra, science fair, and D&D clubs. Wilsonville High rounds out the list with an impressive A overall.

A day at Memorial Park
Most schools in Wilsonville include some playground or ball field, giving city residents and their children a space to exercise outside the smaller parks that pepper the residential areas. The largest of these parks, Memorial Park, is also the oldest. This park offers residents a boat ramp to access the Willamette River. It also has a generous playground where kids can slide and swing on a weekday afternoon. Tranquil Park is an excellent spot for hitting the trail, with its almost 5 acres of paths. Benches appear on the trail for hikers to catch their breath, relax, and watch the birds.

Wilsonville’s shops and restaurants cluster around the Wilsonville Road exit on I-5, 45 minutes from Salem and downtown Portland. Getting around Wilsonville
Although the SMART bus does run from the neighborhood’s south end to its north end, the route has multiple stops. Not all these stops are readily accessible without walking, depending on the resident’s home address, so driving a car in Wilsonville is preferred.
