Woodsboro is a small town with a peaceful atmosphere near Frederick
Drive 10 miles north of Frederick and you will find Woodsboro, the small town living up to its namesake with dense trees and open tracts of land stretching for miles. “Home buyers want peace and quiet out in the farm country,” says Realtor Dennis Stouffer of Quad State Realty. With that coveted small-town feel and community atmosphere, Woodsboro is an excellent choice for home buyers looking to plant roots and save money in the process.
Colonial Revivals and ranch-style homes have acres of land
Homes are sparsely peppered along Woodsboro’s rural landscape. Venture in any direction away from Woodsboro proper, and you will see acre after acre of greenery. On the outskirts sit ranch-style houses and bungalows, whose plot sizes vary but are pretty generous. A small cluster of parallel streets make up the town itself, with mostly ranch-style houses and Colonial Revivals. “Most of the buyers are coming from Montgomery. It’s less pricey here,” says Stouffer. Most homes near the town center cost $250,000 to $490,000, while those on the outskirts range from $600,000 to $890,000. Townhouses and condos cost $270,000 to $430,000.
The quiet safe streets of downtown Woodsboro are perfect for a bike ride.

Woodsboro Park is the town’s main gathering place
Woodsboro Park sits at the center of the community and consists of a playground for kids to climb, slide and swing to their hearts’ content. Throughout the park’s expansive 102 acres, locals can find shade, socialize and chat under one of three rentable pavilions. The 2015-redesigned disc golf course offers 18 holes at a mostly hilly elevation. Seasonal activities are also available to all. In the winter, go sledding down the park’s hillside. When spring arrives, and the water is warmer, try your luck casting a line for some trout. Keep your eyes peeled for the turtles and herons making their way along the waterfront.

Local businesses include Rosie Cheeks Distillery
If you didn’t catch anything, don’t worry; Trouts Market on Main Street has a solid selection of seafood, so you can have that fish for dinner after all. The Olde Towne Restaurant’s menu includes a classic burger and fries. On a weekend afternoon, you might stop by for a refreshing taste of peach moonshine at the family-owned Rosie Cheeks Distillery. There are opportunities to get outside and socialize, too. “There’re all kinds of festivals going on every other week. Each town does their own thing,” says Stouffer. The great thing about Woodsboro’s events is that they coincide with the seasons. In April, kids head to the park for the annual Community Easter Egg Hunt. October is the time when all can participate in yearly trick-or-treating from house to house.
Driving is essential in this neighborhood, so if you need a larger selection of meats and produce, hop in the car for a quick trip to the Safeway about 4 miles south. If you’re the handy type or have been procrastinating on that house project for too long, stop by Vintage Lumber in town. Their staff can help you select from a variety of tree species and aesthetics. If you’d rather envision the project and trust experts with the rest, consider the Woodsboro Craftsmen. They’re a local business providing kitchen and bathroom remodels with free estimates.
