Woolwich Township is a farming community in Gloucester County
Incorporated in 1767, the Woolwich Township is a historic community comprised of modern housing and preserved farmlands on the western outskirts of Gloucester County. "The town of Woolwich puts the garden in garden state," says Broker Associate Ed Dupper of eXp Realty. "There's a lot of family-owned farms that grow tomatoes, green peppers and corn. The area affords a slow-paced, rural feel while close to shopping, restaurants and parks." Dupper was born and raised in the area and has sold homes for 35 years.

Historic homes and 21st-century subdivisions
Housing in the Woolwich Township is a blend of the old and new. In the town's heart are colonials and bungalows that date to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Many houses sport 1,500 square feet and three bedrooms, with features like screened-in porches and intricate landscaping. The township saw substantial growth toward the end of the 20th century as subdivisions with spacious, contemporary colonials and ranch-style homes filed in. "While there was a lot of development, it's far from the high-density feel of the city," Dupper says. "Residents choose this area for the more affordable pricing and larger lots. You'll get lots anywhere between one and three acres." Housing prices range anywhere from $200,000 to $550,000. Most streets are lined with sidewalks and mature trees, often with residents enjoying a stroll.

Strolls around Lake Narraticon, sports fields and park picnics
Locke Ave Park is town's outdoor respite. Local athletes have a home at the park's ample baseball and soccer fields. Additional park amenities include a playground for the kids, a covered pavilion and walking trails. For a more scenic day outside, enjoy a walk by Lake Narraticon. You'll find several lake-side benches and picnic tables under towering trees that afford idyllic water views. Locals especially enjoy the lake during the fall as trees bloom with warm tones, scattering leaves across Park Avenue. The lake also sports a small kayak launch if you want to explore the lake.

Big box and dining from Center Square Plaza to downtown Swedesboro
You have ample access to dining and shopping in the Woolwich Township. The closest big box grocery store is the newly constructed ShopRite in Center Square Plaza. And if you need more grocery options, an ACME Market is 5 miles away in the neighboring Logan Township. "Downtown Swedesboro has several fine restaurants and pizzerias, so many locals head there to enjoy a meal," Dupper says. Eateries like The Red Hen line Kings Highway, adorning the community's town center. The restaurant boasts a rustic aesthetic with a diverse menu that includes chicken parmesan and pesto penne. If you need a sweet treat after dinner, head next door to Lick for a scoop of ice cream. The downtown area is also home to ample events, like the dancing in the street summer concert series, the food truck festival and the Halloween parade.

Commutes by the New Jersey Turnpike, Route 295 and New Jersey buses
"You have a myriad of people that commute to different areas, like Philadelphia, Wilmington and even New York," Dupper says. "And it's convenient to the New Jersey Turnpike and Route 295." If you're spending the day in the city, Philadelphia is 25 miles northeast, and Wilmington is about 20 miles west. Most residents drive in the area, but several bus stops of the NJ Transit system line Kings Highway. The Woolwich Township's pastoral landscape offers a rural feel with a proximal zip code.
