A quintessential Wyoming community
Despite resting at the edge of the Grand Rapids city limits, Urbandale’s spacious parks, secluded suburban feel and convenient commuter routes give it a distinct City of Wyoming character. “Thinking about Wyoming, with its attractions like Craig’s Cruisers and services like Metro Hospital, its mix of restaurants and grocery stores, parks and nature trails really puts a smile on my face,” says Sarah Takens, a Realtor and associate broker with The Local Element West Michigan, who has more than seven years of experience selling in the region. Whether it's shopping on 28th Street, sledding at Pinery Park after a weekend blizzard or attending an event in the city, Urbandale’s residents enjoy a mix of commercial amenities and outdoor recreation just 4 miles from downtown Grand Rapids.

Urbandale’s homes are anything but contemporary
In the established community of Urbandale, buyers may be hard-pressed to find homes built after the 1970s. In fact, some properties date back as early as the 1910s. Architectural styles include everything from traditional Foursquare to Dutch Colonial to ranch-style homes, and most properties sit close together on petite single lots. Although older, most of the community’s streets include sidewalks and even the occasional streetlight, which makes walking to neighborhood parks and nearby businesses much easier and safer. Buyers can expect to find smaller two-bedroom homes listed in the $150,000 to $250,000 range, while the more spacious three- and four-bedroom properties with recent renovations can go for up to $300,000.
Dutch Colonial homes are found sprinkled in between other two-story homes of Urbandale.

Spend all four seasons at Pinery Park
It may seem small on the map, but Pinery Park is one of Wyoming’s most beloved regional and neighborhood green spaces. A spacious lodge and multiple picnic shelters accommodate private gatherings throughout the year, while local leagues make use of the park’s baseball fields. “I love Pinery Park. It’s got a big sledding hill and walking trail with fitness challenges along the way,” Takens says. Residents also get their fitness fix at Battjes Park, which includes basketball and volleyball courts as well as a popular fishing pier. Lamar Park’s splash pads, disc golf course and waterside trails often draw a crowd, and the park hosts occasional outdoor concerts. And right across the highway, Millenium Park’s sandy beaches and playgrounds are one of Grand Rapids’ top destinations in summer.
