A wooded community with urban access
McGuffey Heights blends rural and suburban living on the east side of Youngstown. Downtown Youngstown offers entertainment and dining, and on the ride home, residents cruise beneath the leafy canopies of McGuffey Heights, holding the quiet air of rural life. “There is not a lot of employment immediately around there, and there are not a lot of grocery stores there either,” says Realtor Cynthia Cursaro, who has sold property in the neighborhood with Tri-Sun Real Estate & Property Management. “It’s not very densely populated compared to most of Youngstown.”

The McGuffey Centre, downtown entertainment and professional sports in neighboring cities
The McGuffey Centre on Jacobs Road has served Youngstown’s east side for almost a century. The centre offers senior programs that include crafts, bingo, sewing and technology education. Its T.E.N. program provides tutoring, exercise and nutrition services to the local youth. The centre also hosts informative speakers, health screenings and a diabetes prevention program. After school or on the weekends, students can head to the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County East for an extra study session. Most entertainment options are in the downtown. Stambaugh Stadium has a capacity of 20,630 people. The Youngstown State Penguins football team, a member of the Division I Football Championship Division, calls the stadium home. The Butler Institute of Art has celebrated the works of American artists for over 100 years. The Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre is a 4,800-person-capacity outdoor venue that shows films and features cover bands. “People love to see professional teams in Cleveland and Pittsburgh. It’s about an hour either way, and you have a whole slew of things to pick from,” says Realtor Stella Kotsatos-Angelo, who has sold property in McGuffey Heights with CENTURY 21 Lakeside Realty.

McGuffey Wildlife Preserve, Bailey Park and Partio’s Big on Golf
McGuffey Wildlife Preserve, featuring 78 acres of northeast Ohio landscape, is just a half mile east of the neighborhood. The park is a good resource for hikers and bird watchers. The semi-abandoned Bailey Park sits at the north end of the neighborhood. Bailey Park was constructed in the 1930s as a Works Progress Administration project, and once included 13 baseball diamonds, a lighted softball field, a swimming pool and a brick grandstand. These amenities have since fallen into disrepair. Today, kids can utilize the playground equipment or scrimmage with friends at the outdoor basketball court. The park's three pavilions are great for birthday celebrations or reunions. Plenty of green space allows for a range of recreational activities and fun. Partio’s Big on Golf is 2 miles east of the park. This driving range welcomes golfers of all skill levels, and a miniature golf course makes children feel like putting professionals and engages them with fun toys and prizes. The community waits for Partio’s packed pumpkin patch each fall. Local youth can also enroll in junior golf leagues or instructional classes at Partio’s.
