Why Live in Clayton-Carter

At the northern tip of Lubbock, but close to what's considered the eastern part of the city, Clayton-Carter offers quick access to the interstate, the airport and outdoor attractions. The neighborhood is named after Clayton Carter, a Texas Tech alum who also served as a leader in the growth of Crosby County. The area is near one of the more geographically diverse areas in Lubbock, says Tarvis Grant, broker for TGA Realty and Property Management, who’s been selling homes in the area for over 20 years. “I think East Lubbock’s landscape is one of the more attractive parts of the city,” he says. “It has a lot of elevation changes, and you have the lakes, while other parts of the city are just flat.” The neighborhood features midcentury ranch-style homes and new traditionals from the past 25 years. Houses are arranged along gridded streets with sidewalks and streetlights. Properties have driveways, and some newer homes may have attached garages. Houses here range from $100,000 to $200,000. Students may start at Carmona-Harrison Elementary, which receives a C from Niche, before going to Cavazos Middle, which also earns a C. Estacado High also gets a B-minus and offers an early college
