South Lubbock, 6 miles from downtown, is a growing urban area favored for its proximity to shopping, dining, schools and entertainment. “People move to South Lubbock because of the low cost of living, short commute times, nice restaurants, good public schools and private schools,” says Jeff Sellers, owner and broker with The Sellers Realty. Sellers has been working in Lubbock for 20 years. South Lubbock is mainly single-family homes, with several businesses bordering the area. The Texas State Highway Loop 289 borders the neighborhood and encircles the city, allowing access to anywhere in Lubbock. Like much of the city, South Lubbock has gridded streets lined with sidewalks and manicured front and backyards. The area is growing and expanding, says Sellers.
