Maceo is a small rural community in Kentucky, about 10 miles outside Owensboro and set where Highway 60 and Highway 231 meet. Locals see it as a town with a strong independent streak, where many residents focus on gardening and maintaining multiacre farmland. The area is part of a Rural Service Area and A-R Rural Agriculture Zone, so agricultural land use is protected and new urban-style development is limited. Homes are mostly bungalow and ranch-style houses built from the early 1900s through the early 2000s, often with spacious yards that can fit sheds, garden beds, multicar driveways and occasional carports.

Maceo sits about 3 miles from the Ohio River. For things to do, residents drive to nearby spots like Mattingly Target Shooting Range 2 miles south, The Pearl Club golf course and Yellow Creek Park about 4 miles south, and Millennium Park 8 miles north in Lewisport. Owensboro Racing and Gaming casino is nearby and includes a restaurant and over 600 slots-style horse-racing machines.
