Sloan-Carmel is a rural area in DeSoto Parish where residents enjoy a private, secluded life, with lines of pine trees separating homes. Several churches are in the area, including Rock Chapel, which was built in 1891 by an order of Carmelite Monks. There is only one restaurant in the area, inside Eagle’s Truck Stop on Interstate 49. For more dining and shopping options, as well as other services like healthcare, people drive about 10 miles to Mansfield. Trees fill flat stretches of land along the neighborhood's country roads, and most homes are ranch styles from the mid-20th century. Some new traditional and manufactured houses are there as well. The median lot size is just over an acre, although some newer construction is closer to half an acre. Mansfield Middle School and Mansfield High School receive a C. The high school offers
